Yankee Thermopylae

If the Yankees lose tonight, they will be tied for last place.

With the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

It's not the end of the world---- hell, the Sox came within a few fingerlengths of making back a 10.5 game deficit with a heck of a lot less time to do so--- but it'd be a pretty significant benchmark for the suckcesspool that has been the 2005 Yankees team so far.

Their backs are against the wall about as early as that could be said with a straight face.

I'm sure they'll win---- this is Tampa Bay and I bet you Steinbrenner has every Yankees players familys hostage and is sending the players videotape saying that if they ever want to see their families again....

Still..... one game away from last place.

btw, by Pythagorean the Yankees shouldn't be THIS bad---- their pyth W/L is only 13-15.

Still, right now they're not a good team.

There's still about 6 weeks before the alarm goes off for good. But they play the Mets in a few weeks. The Yanks havne't won any series I can think of. If they don't start winning series, .500 and better is a pipe dream. Even getting Clemens isn't gonna help.

Seriously-the move should be to dump the dead wood and take the hit this year. The entire Yankee home schedule is practically sold out. Stop throwing good money after abbad.

And for God sakes, get someone to take Giambi off their hands, or just write a check. Watching this turd is freaking torture. He either strikes out, walks or hits a ball to the right side right at one of the shift guys. Any pitvher who walks this moron should be sent to the minors. This a-hole won't cut down and go the other way or bunt; still swinging for the fences and to pull when he's totally overmatched. Simply the worst signing in MLB history bar none; makes the Nolan Ryan to Angels and Mo Vaughn to the Mets trades look good.

Disagreed. The guy hit 82 homers in the first two years you had him. That alone means he wasn't the worst. There have been guys paid not all that much less than him who have contributed ZERO... Giambi was very very good for year, good for half of another, OK for part of the rest of his time, and has now fallen off the map completely.

it is a classic example of the pitfalls of long contracts.

You guys owe him 61.5 mil in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and a 5 mil buyout in 2009. Ouch.

You won't find anyone who will assume more than 4 or 5 mil of the 82 mil he is still owed, if that.

Basically, yes, you should cut him.
