Alk
This had to be my most enjoyable experience at a video game store ever. I walk into Gamestop and they are just packed. There is one girl standing behind the register with a guy behind her looking like a deer in the headlights. I look all over for a used copy of Madden and can't find one but I do find the new copy for $29.99. So I went ahead and asked the lady if they had a used copy. She eventually found one and got ready to ring me out. I asked how much the used copy was. She said $26.99. I just kind of laughed and told her to forget it, I would buy the new copy instead. By the time I got the copy she had another customer so she told me that Bill or whatever the **** his name is would ring me out at the other register. I go over there and stand noticing that she had put the game right by the register. So here comes Billy or whatever the **** his name is acting all important. He looks at the case and turns to deer in the headlights boy and asks him to grab a copy of Madden. The kid starts fumbling through the games when Billy yells "A NEW COPY!!". A minute passes and Billy says "I apologize, it's his first day." He goes back to help the new guy. The whole time I stand at the counter staring at the game that the girl had put right in front of the register. I let them both tear the game case apart for a couple minutes when I say "Oh, I think this is the game right here." Billy had to reach down a pick his jaw up off of the floor before ringing me up. If anything I hope this game deer in the headlights boy a chuckle and a boost of confidence. So on to the game. IMO, EA is slowly killing this once great franchise. They are trying to implement way too many bells and whistles. The best part was last night I started my franchise. I simmed through the first year like I always do (The Jets made it to the Super Bowl and lost 24-23 to the Giants by the way) then proceeded to build my team. Signing all of my current players then doing the draft. I was pleasantly surprised by the draft setup. I love how you can actually play the college all star game and test prospects out in various drills. So I go through this getting a big fat F in my draft class even though I didn't draft a single player under a 75 overall and decide to call it a day at 2:00 in the ****ing morning. In EA's infinite wisdom, they didn't feel the need to inform a person that they don't have enough space on their memory card to save. So there I am with about two hours into my franchise and I can't save it. Thanks alot EA!!

The offseason in Madden takes along time with simulating things, like the retired players, restricted FA and all of that stuff. I like how this year they have two " FA signings " one before and after the draft.
ECURB
ALK what did you get it for? PS2/360/PS3?? I think that they ruined it for 360/PS3 this year... I liked the PS2 version so much better.... they took away a bunch of features and added a bunch of stupid cut scenes... I hope they make it great for 08'... this game really is starting to suck more and more... It has so much potential its a shame to see it go this route... This was the first year that I didn't buy it on it's release date. I just had no urge to play. With FA and the draft, I kind of felt the urge to try playing again, the $29 price tag didn't hurt either. I just can't get used to this lead blocking crap and all of that stuff. I did just fine before without all of these stupid gadgets.

I hated playing it on my friend's 360, I didn't like the way they change the controls, I liked it a lot on PS2. I'm ridiculous on defense on All-Madden in the game, I just can't pass for ****. I win my games like 14-13 with my quarterback going 1 touchdown, like 4 interceptions when I try to pass. So I just run it every down and barely win or barely lose. Great game on the PS2, although some of the new things were just retarted, I didn't lead block once. I loved the owner mode, so I hope they put that in next year. I don't understand how it's "next-gen" if you can't even keep the standard parts from "last gen". They'd have enough space, are they just lazy from the lack of competition? It will all be back for Madden 08.

Alk
One of the best upgrades I have found so far is the kicking controls. Absolutely love using the analog stick to stop and start the power meter. Much better than the three button tap that they had for all of those years. Alk
I finally played my first preseason game. I am starting out on rookie so I can get back in the groove of things. It seems like taking a year off really helped me. I used to have a handful of plays that I used continuously throughout the course of a game. I found myself using every play in the playbook last night.

I like to switch up the plays that way... they give you like 5 plays to choose from... if you dont like them then go select your own..

war ensemble
I never had online, so I can't say much there, although I do hate the people that cheese plays like that. I love playing against my bro because we're so even, the scores are like 70-76, with a crazy touchdown winning the game. I don't like the next-gen madden. JetsMan57
Madden has, is, and always will be about adjusting the game play sliders. This is what a lot of Madden bashers dont realize. Right out of the box Madden's gameplay blows and thats because EA caters the game to the casual, non-hardcore fans. But for those who want realistic, simulation type football you have to adjust the sliders. Go to video game boards like operationsports.com and check out the sliders people post. Believe me, it will make the game fun, realistic and very competitive.

El Gringo Loco
Not sure what you're referring too, but if the AI's defense is blitzing too much try knocking down he AI defensive awareness slider. Starting in Madden 06 random gap blitzing was introduced, because cry babies were complaining that they couldn't handle blitz pressure. An example, in Madden 05 if you told the MLB to blitz the A gap the AI would do what you told it to every time. Now in 06 and 07 the same command is completely random, the MLB might shoot the A gap, the far B gap, or bring pressure around the edge. The only way to make sure the player goes where you want him to is to control him yourself, which I think sucks because I used to like controlling a Safety. I was wondering if there any AI adjustments to fix this, I have never tinkered with the AI.
JetsMan57
I really havent noticed that. I have noticed sometimes if the gap you tell your LB to blitz is closed he'll try another way to get after the QB which makes it kind of realistic, but i havent seem them do it randomly every time. No slider would help that.
Alk
I lost to the Dolphins ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! I moved up to All Pro and got my butt beat. The score was something like 50-47. I am really struggling with the passing game. In my first two games, I have thrown something like 10 ints. and have been sacked probably 13 times. What exactly am I doing wrong here? My offensive line is very solid with my lineman all having at least an 85 rating if not higher.

You can also pick some sort plays and throw "pennington" like passes... that will open up the long ball...

It seems like the only thing I can complete are short passes across the middle or in the flats. I have Stallworth and Jackson starting and surprisingly, neither can even get so much as a step on the d back. There used to be a way you could lead your receivers on a pass but I can't figure out how to do it.

The buttons are sensitive.. so if you just tap it, the ball will float to them... if you slam the button down and hold it for a second it will be a bullet... sometimes you need to get some loft on it to get it over the DB... then to lead the WR just push the stick in the direction you want to lead them... war ensemble
To confirm, you lead them with the left analog. Ever since the vision cone was introduced I suck at passing, but since then I've also become really good at running the ball. So what I just do is run it about 80% of the time. My only throws are short Pennington passes. Unless I'm playing my brother.
Alk
You must have to turn the passing cone on because I just started playing and it wasn't there. I played the version where it was first introduced and didn't much care for it. I barely have enough time to get the ball off as it is let alone having to worry about manually looking at each WR. Yeah the passing cone is optional again... on PS# you can hit L2 (I think) to turn it on right in the middle of a play.... You dont need the cone on though to lead with the left stick. El Gringo Loco
Pump fakes, double moves, and PA work pretty good for me in the passing game. Do you guys know the easy way to tell if the cpu D is in zone or man? This helped me out alot, when your team is walking up to the line, press the button that zooms out to see all the players on the field, if the Corners move a little bit they are in man, if they stand still they are in zone. I found it much more easy to do this than sending a player in motion to see what kind of coverage their D is in.
