Patriots | Samuel will not report to team's offseason program Mon, 12 Mar 2007 06:02:56 -0800 Albert Breer, of the MetroWest Daily News, reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel will not report to the team's offseason program without a new deal in place, according to his agent, Alonzo Shavers. Think Riggins would ever have showed up for an "offseason program?"

We all know that the man can say WHATEVER he wants. We also know that none of it matters. Pay him or she isn't going to let Asante show up! Bank of it. 124
This is just off-season workouts, not camp. If he doesn't report to camp then we've got a story and then this could turn into another Deion Branch deal. Should be interesting to see if they can / will lock up Asante long term (or possibly trade him) or if he will give in.

I saw the interview on TV with the Boston Fox station affiliate. As a matter of fact, I think they still have the interview clip on the Boston Fox News website. Check it out. Or are YOU afraid of looking like an azz? The KFFL report states that Asante will not report to the March work-out. As a matter of fact, he stated that - more or less - in the interview. Nice pick up by KFFL - seems that Butch Sterns, again, of the Boston Fox News, broke this a day earlier.....in an actual interview he had with Asante during an autograph session at the local Chestnut Hill Macy's. Remember, I live in Patsie Land. Goobers....all of you...except you, Alk. Your a Pats fan. Alk
http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10058748 Linebacker Lance Briggs is disgruntled about receiving the franchise tag from Chicago. But cornerback Asante Samuel does not share the same angry feelings about the franchise tag he received from New England. Though Samuel will not show up at the Patriots' offseason conditioning program that kicks off Monday, the cornerback's agent Alonzo Shavers said Tuesday that it has nothing to do with the unsettled contract situation and everything to do with his client living and training in Florida. "That's all this is about," Shavers said. Samuel worked out in Florida last offseason, and nobody mentioned anything about his level of happiness. Shavers said anybody that has speculated that his client is staying away from New England due to unhappiness is incorrect. So Briggs has set the record straight and now, apparently, Samuel's agent has attempted to do the same.

This whole thread is based on something you allege he said out loud that you didn't understand. He will play this season or he will forfeit his franchise salary which IIRC is $7.7M. If you believe Asante Samuel will forfeit $7.7M for one season you are insane. I know you are just trying to piss off Pats fans, but the whole premise is ridiculous. Compare me to Fox News? You started this by claiming Samuel said something in an interview. Now you are advising me of subliminal messages. I'm sorry. I had no idea that I was so naive in regards to contract negotiations. I can't believe I've been able to make a living all this time. 1. Samuel apparently did not participate in the offseason workout program last year, elected to workout at his home in Florida. Maybe that was a subliminal message that he intended to hold out in '07? 2. His franchise "tender" is not guaranteed. They are not guaranteed until they are signed. Samuel didn't sign the $7.79M yet. He can wait Most players don't sign them right away for several reasons. First, looking for any potential leverage for a long term deal. Second, theoretically they will be free to negotiate with other teams and have them compensate the Pats. Nobody is going to make that deal because it will cost a ton of money and IIRC 2 #1s, but it's better to keep options open. Second, no player wants to sign the franchise deal without getting a clause that they can't be franchised again-Clements did that before signing for $7.2M last year. If you are baiting me fine. If not you should try a logic class.

Gainzo
Why is NE willing to pay other teams players but not their own ? They do pay their own. Seymour & Brady come to mind. Asante is due to make over $7 million this season. If that's not paying your own then I don't understand the term "paying your own." The Pats don't overspend for players they think are on the downside of their careers. Willie McGinest comes to mind. They offered Ty Law, Deion Branch and Vinateri good money but those players chose to move on. Are you happy with the Jets "paying your own" when it comes to Kimo and Chad?
