JetNation
Jeff Karstens is making the most of his chances. More...
AFJF
ST results are never anything to lose your mind over but I saw this game and Karstens was very sharp. Ahead of hitters early in the count and only gave up one hit. Based on what I saw from the kid last year I honestlly can't remember the last time the Yankees had this much potential in their young pitchers. A lot of names come to mind when I think about the Yankees "pitching prospect" history since I've been a fan and none too good. Wade Taylor Jeff Johnson Steve Adkins Kevin Mmahat Sam Militello Brien Taylor to name a few. Lets hope the current crop is nothing like any of these guys
Kidhuman
When the heck did we get Todd Pratt? I liked KArstens last year, thought he was solid from the pen and good in the spot starter position. Seems he has been solid all spring. Hopefully he can continue this in the majors all season long.
mbn007
When the heck did we get Todd Pratt? I liked KArstens last year, thought he was solid from the pen and good in the spot starter position. Seems he has been solid all spring. Hopefully he can continue this in the majors all season long. After Kartsens struggled in AAA at the beginning of 2006, he was sent to Aa, where Neill Allen, Pitching Coach, made a few suggestions. It was like a light bulb went on. He went 6-0, with a solid ERA and WHIP in AA, was sent back to AA, went 5-0, and came up to the Yankees in August, where he was 2-1, with a sub 4 ERA. This spring, his WHIP is super, he is averaging a K an inning, and has basically been the best pitcher is ST. He is making a solid case not just for a roster spot, but for a rotation spot. Pavano, watch out. You have been warned. BTW - Pratt was signed over the Winter as a FA. The 40 year old will be in competition for Posada's backup. 124
He could very well be the LR and the step in starter for whenever Pavano gets hurt. Hughes with a 7+ ERA, not so impressive.
