theinlawjosie
I'm sorry, but I am getting so sick and tired of the majority of threads on this forum being an argument over Chad Pennington. I'm a Chad fan and I almost want to see him gone just so people will stop with all the nonsense. There are things that are worth talking about that don't involve Penny. We could definitely have a better QB but we could just as well have one who is worse. If some people don't stop fixating on how awful (they think)Chad is they are going to miss a lot of positives that surround this team. Anyway, I think the team will be better than they were last year WITH Chad under center. I just had to let that out b/c everytime I come to this board I end up leaving after reading one thread b/c I'm so sick of hearing about how Chad isn't ever going to be a SB winning QB or how we will never have an explosive offense b/c Pennington is our horrible QB. Give it a rest....please!

I'm pretty sure everybody that visits this site knows that Barton is 100% positive that we will not amount to anything until Kellen Clemens or another unproven QB gets the nod from the coaching staff, I don't need to read it everytime somebody wants to look on the bright side of things. The fact that you posted a message on the board means you opened it up for debate, you dont need to type Debate in order for people to discuss the topic. I agree with you, the Penny versus Clemens argument is getting old, and just as we know that Barton is 100% sure we need to make a change we know ecurb is 100% sure Penny is going to lead the Jets to the superbowl. Heres the problem, we dont have much to talk about for the next 6 weeks, until the draft rolls around. At that time Im sure plenty of other topics will be discussed. However until that time the most hotly contested and debated position on the team will be QB. Can you think of another position on the team that is as important to our success or has players that are deemed as quality by varying groups on this board that will be competing for the starting spot? After the brief reprieve around draft time we will be right back to the Chad vs Clemens argument. it will be discussed in minicamp, during Otas, ect, straight through the regular season and maybe even into next season. I understand that there isn't much to talk about right now. I understand that ecurb is 100% sure that Penny is going to lead the jets to the superbowl, and no I cannot think of another position on the team that is as important to our success; however, the basis of this thread was a post that somebody had made due to their joy of having several GOOD players on this team. I happen to agree that our offense does seem to be improving. My question in the whole Penny/Clemens debate is why does it have to be brought up in nearly every thread? (rhetorical question) I know I don't have to come here and read the threads but I am a die hard Jets fan and I can't stay away. I am looking forward to the upcoming season regardless of who is going to be under center because any way you want to slice it we SHOULD be a better team. I guess it's sort of petty for me to complain about all the debat, but then again I have seen people say that if Penny is our starter we should just pack up and call it quits. Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure having Chad Pennington as the QB for the NY Jets is better than not having the NY Jets at all.

Mistalava
Chad is better that 80-90% of the staring QB's in the league. He'll be even better now that we've got a credible running game and improved OL. Arm strength notwithstanding, he'll have a great year.

docdhc
There isn't much else to talk about. Besides, the QB is the most important position and Chad does have an unusually weak arm for the NFL. I would have to say I have never seen another QB in approx. 40 years of NFL watching with a weaker arm. That said, I still think he gives us the best chance to win, but these threads will never stop until we have a real pro bowl type QB with an NFL type arm. BTW top 20% QB would be top 6 QB in the league, considering 32 starters. I count at least Brady, Manning, Palmer, McNabb, Brees, Roethlisburger, Hasselback, and maybe Vince Young as better without thinking too much about it. I would call Chad in the top 50%. pjam76
You say with Chad P under center next season they should be better.. Last time I checked, he played all 17 games last year, including that one playoff debacle. I think he's smart. I think he has talent. But come on, you think he's in the top 10 percent of QBs in the NFL.. I'm afraid that is a far fetched idea. He has no upside, so even the young guys have more potential then him at this point. He is what he is and we know what the Jets will get out of him. THey might get to the playoffs, but unless the the defense becomes one of the best in the NFL, it's hard for most to think he'll lead them to a super bowl. He does not play well in the playoffs. Yeah he had a nice game a few years back against the Colts, but over the years, even last year, he makes one mistake and suddenly a 3 point game turns into a 17 point blowout. In the playoffs a QB can not think about his mistakes. He can't analyze them. He can't worry about them. THe problem with CHad P is because of his weak arm and the fact he overanalyzes and thinks too much sometimes, it turns a close playoff game into a blowout. So far this defense hasn't upgraded in the offseason and unless they do some great things in the draft, the same problem will exist in the playoffs once again. When you play the better teams, mistakes happen. IF you can overcome them, limit them, you have a chance. But if you turn one mistake into 3 or 4, game over. And in Chad P's career, he turns 1 mistake into a bunch of mistakes. He is what he is and since he doesn't have the arm of an Elway or the talent of a Brady or Manning, his overanalysis after a mistake kills him and the Jets.
