The Official Jets Starting QB in 2007 Thread...

ECURB

Recommended Posts

OK here you go... a thread just for fighting over who should be the starting QB in 2007.

You can bash Chad

You can praise Chad

You can bash Kellen

You can praise Kellen

You can just express your desire to sit back and trust Mangini...

This will be one big thread about who should be the QB in 2007, and will obviously help cut down on the others... from now until week one... if you have something to say about the JETS QB's... put it here...

No name calling... everyone wants the JETS to win, and every can have their own opinion... if you dont like their ideas, think of a nice way to put it or just dont respond. For once as JETS fans we are heading into a season on the rise, enjoy it.

That said... I would like to introduce you to your 2007 starting JETS QB...

Chad-Pennington.jpg

Please discuss... its the only thing exciting we have to talk about until draft day!

As of now Chad gives us the best chance to win, and should play.

The whole "get Kellen in there to get him ready" thing is not good, he will not learn to be a part of a winning team, he will not learn how to win games, we will take a step back and that will make some of the older players (Coles, ect) angry and might want to leave.

Kellen needs to learn in practice and pre-season, hopefully some garbage time if we can get a good lead on some teams... then when he is ready to step in and win he should play... not just becuase he *might* be good.

Whoever wins it in camp should start.

If Chad proves that he can stay as the starter, so be it. If Kellen flat out beats him in camp, start him. The better QB will start. Whoever gives this team the best chance to win.

Ok so the best way to learn how to win is by playing in practice, preseason, and garbage time, & not by playing in actual games that mean something and winning them? Thats really interesting. :shutit:

No but Im pretty sure the JETS are nto in business to put in a lesser QB so he can learn and maybe wind up better....

I SAID that he must prove he is better than Chad THAT MOMENT... not with a few games... we cant just play someone based on the hope *HOPE* that he MIGHT be better...

How is he supposed to "prove he is better than Chad THAT MOMENT", without playing? Basically the way you have this setup Kellen can never play......

Thats not true at all...

These guys spend HOURS and HOURS playing in front of the coaches during practice... it might not be the same as the game but a good coach can tell when someone is going to be more game ready, Mangini will be able to tell from practice, pre-season, garbage time who the better QB is, I trust him.

When the goal is to settle with mediocrity, that is the time to just pack itin. Yes Chad was named the starter for now. Yes he will get the majority of the reps with the first team. But don't think for one second that because Mangini named Chad the starter now that things can't change later. If Chad continues to play mediocre football and Clemens looks like he can step up, Clemens will be in. Plain and simple.

I am not a huge Chad fan by any means, but i am a pretty big Mangini fan. I dig how he has handled the QB situation so far, and I think he'll continue to handle it the best way he can, dealing with what he has on the roster.

I will have no problem supporting his decision to insert Clemens if and when the time comes. And if he doesnt think it's time to bench CP yet, then I support that decision, too.

Coluldn't have said it better meslf. Personally I think we have to move on and get somebody in there with more upside even if we'll have to suffer through some growing pains. But I don't profess to know more than Mangini on this subject, and everything he's done so far has made me trust his judgement. So I'm just content to sit back and whatever desicion he makes: so be it.

That being said, I am not on board with all the Chad-bashing that seems to go around here. True, he's probably nothing more than a mediocre QB, but plenty of mediocre QBs have won the SB in the past with the right team around them. I don't agree that we cannot win in the playoffs with Chad.

It does seem like there is a lot more bashing coming off a 10-6 season where the team made the playoffs and he stayed healthy, than there was last year when the Jets were coming off 4-12, had no sure QB, and he was recuperating from surgery. Ironic.

You wanna be consistently good and win 9/10 games a season and maybe a playoff win sprinkled in each season? Okay, go with Chad.

You wanna win a championship or two, go with somebody else and we must give Kellen Clemens a chance to see if he is that man. I believe he is but let us see it for if it is not we then will have to draft, sign or trade for somebody else. Chad Pennington, however, like Smizzy said, equals playoff elimination.

So rather than take a risk on something, we just settle with and accept mediocrity? If you don't take a risk, you won't put yourself in position to win a championship. Chad has already shown that we won't win a championship with him unless we suddenly get ultra talented on defense.

Thank you. I was about to say this but no need now, very good post.

It just seems so illogical to me. I've already stated that I'd prefer Chad to start the season, but if after a few games he's performing last year, it's time to bench him. The more I read ecurb's pro-Chad propaganda, though, the more I dislike the idea of Pennington starting.

He has to earn that chance by showing up in mini camp and tc and playing his ass off. I dont want to stick someone in there who loos like a deer caught in the headlights, just because some people think 10-6 stinks.

Maybe he'll look good this summer, but you havent seen a thing so far to say you believe Clemens is a championship QB. Until he shows he can run the team and be a leader and make plays, it's a pipedream.

It is the offseason so QB controversey is good fodder to throw around IMO.

It may be message board fodder, but there really is no controversy at this point.

Clemens has to show he is good enough for there to even be a controversy.
