I used to delve into car audio in the 80's,I don't think you want my advice.

I used to have a pioneer super tuner II,with a humongous amp that would almost catch on fire..4 speakers..2 on the door and 2 in the back..the trunks on the old cars used to act like a huge sub woofer..

I haven't the slightest idea about modern car audio though, sorry.

Good point, I'm not an expert but I know just enough to be dangerous.

exactly...lol

I installed most everything in my car... but I wouldnt call myself an expert... you would be amazed how smart you get when you have a couple buddies and some beer to help you out!

Good idea ecurb.

Basically my stock stereo broke..for the fourth time. Now the warranty is up, and Ford wants nothing to do with it..so I am looking to put a NAV system in.

I have looked at the Pioneer AVIC-N3, also see there is an N2 unit out. I can't tell a difference for the life of me. What is the difference between the two?

Also, does anyone recommend any IN DASH Nav units other than those two?

Thanks.

for the price of those things you could install an entire computer in your vehicle with an in dash touch screen monitor.

well, there are quite a few actually. there are a few companies online which make in dash comptuters for your car...it can do anything a computer can, including using navigation software. you could also get yourself a in dash stereo with a flip out monitor and hook any computer up to it. there are tons of options...but either way it would be a ton cheaper than those navigation decks.

what kind of car do you have? do you have a single or double din radio opening?

i have alot mroe info on my home computer and can give you any advice you need on the subject. im not an expert per se but i have researched it quite a bit and was planning on putting a computer in my old car until i totaled it.

As OK said there are other options... if you are going to get that Pioneer though the only difference is that the N2 is the old model and the N3 replaced it... get the N3.

How long do you plan to keep the car? Why not just get a good stereo system without the screen and go buy a Garmin GPS that can be taken into whatever car you might have?

Awesome, just awesome. i had a Pioneer Super tuner too. The Green dial used to vibrate with the power. I had it hooked up to a 50 watt graphic equalizer with speakers front and back. That was a bitchin set-up in teh early 80's.

It's an '03 Explorer. It's a DD...6 CD in dash. I fit the Kenwood KVT-815 in there..but I didn't like it, and it was a little too futzy.

I just want a touch screen NAV/DVD unit. I appreciate the help.

I'm going to keep it until I at least graduate college, in a nother year and a half or so. I'd rather get the whole shabang in one unit..I find those mini navigation things ugly, out of place on dashboards and annoying to look at.
