raffyD
Over the next month, "SportsCenter" will put every NFL team "On The Clock." Scouts Inc. will break down each team and look at what questions still need answering. The Jets are up now. johnny green balls
the whole analysis says the jets most pressing needs are a 3rd WR, DE, CB and yet they have us taking a TE. why not take a DE or CB round one then pick up a WR in round 2 or 3? certainly a 2nd or 3rd round pick can give the jets a solid 3rd option (which is what olsen would be) and we can still get an impact player on D. don't see this team taking olsen. SeniorFlaJet
The only thing that is controversial is when he says Tui will compete for Clemens for the second spot. I would wait till I hear something from Mangini on that one.
Sperm Edwards
Pennington was named the starter heading into training camp, not the season. Doubt they draft Olsen. A guy who skated by on raw talent & didn't make the most of his ability, resulting in a lackluster college career, doesn't seem like a player Mangini would want. Yes which means unless he loses his job he is penciled in at #1 on the depth chart, which would make him the starting QB in 07'... that just fits Mangini's way of thinking that nobodys job is safe, but it is Chads job. Afinogenov
I really hope the Jets don't draft a TE in the first round, Baker is fine IMO and I don't really like this Olsen guy from Miami.

LionelRichie
if anthony gonzales from the ohio state university is still on the board when the jets draft in rd 2 i think he would be a great 3rd receiver option. also, from what i read he is a mangini type player. These kinds of statements make me go crazy.... How is it that we (Jets Fans) constantly label and stamp players based on whether or not they are "mangini players" or if they fit the "Mangini Mold"... None of us have been in a room privately with Mangini, or interviewed him asking him what particular types of players he likes.. I personally hate the saying "Mangini Player: and things of that sort... and I wish people would stop saying that.

I personally hate the saying "Mangini Player: and things of that sort... and I wish people would stop saying that. Just look at the pattern. Mangini has stayed away from the players who have poor attitudes/work ethic, and gone for tough players in the mold of Nick Mangold (and in re-signing Jerricho Cotchery). He's even stated in limited responses to the media that he looks for players with toughness; physically and mentally. You don't have to know a coach personally to recognize the TYPE of players he brings in.

I would wait till I hear something from Mangini on that one. They also said BJ Askew has value. I'm 100% with Troll with this being the biggest load of crap in the article. They said "he was used mainly as a blocker" and had "value" on special teams, they don't mention that he blocks poorly and probably makes about 3 tackles a year on ST. I wonder how we will replace that "value."
Ghost
Key losses The Jets entered free agency without any marquee players of their own who were set to become free agents. However, the Jets did lose FB B.J. Askew to the Buccaneers. Askew was a versatile player who was used mainly as a blocker with value on special teams. They also released backup running backs Kevan Barlow and Derrick Blaylock, QB Patrick Ramsey and C Trey Teague. Jets brought in Barlow as a possible replacement for franchise RB Curtis Martin, but he was a disappointment. How in the world are these key loseses ? Ghost
And Olsen would be gone by the time the Jets are on the clock. I think he's going to Carolina.

That's all we need is someone getting 15 yard penalties and losing a game for us. Maybe we should go after that guy who stomped on that player's head last year. I'll stick with the Mangini method. MattyAction
I saw the "Jets on the clock" segment on sportscenter tonight. Everything written in the opening post was from Sportscenter. Except for the pick. He had Olsen as the pick, but on the show, Kiper and the guys said the pick would be CB Revis (Pitt). Just wondering where Olsen came from, considering the whole thread and title was about the SC segment. What happened there?

pjam76
Nobody really knows what type of players Mangini likes or dislikes. He's really only brought in a couple of players and has only been here for one season. He did a heck of a coaching job last season, but as far as picking talent, the jury is still out on this regime. Mangold was great, Washington was ok at times, but other than that, there is nobody else that became special great players last year. NOt on a consistent basis. So as far as Mangini "type" of player, I don't know, Ramsey and Barlow didn't seem to be that impressive to me and Mangini and Tann brought those guys here through trades. No you don't need A-Holes, but after one season and really only one great player they picked up, I don't know what kind of players this regime likes or dislikes. They brought in losers that were gone after one season and they brought in a couple of decent pickups, so far, they are about even in who they pick. Lets see how this offseason and season goes before I start saying, "they know how to pick talent."
chad2colesin06=---
i agree that we desperately need a #3 WR, even though im a big jmac fan he is clearly not gonna have to chance to compete so i would be ok if the jets went after a wr in the 2nd round because brad smith is not a full time wr, thinking of him as our every down slot wr gives me chills
