Mulitalo to the Lions

Lions have agreed to terms with former Ravens G Ed Mulitalo on a three-year contract.

Nice signing. Mulitalo should have come cheaply and could have a productive year or two left as a starter. Detroit has stockpiled veteran talent at guard to go with a few youngers. Damien Woody has to stay trim now or get released.

Missed chance to upgrade the team in a meaningful way....

I agree with the folks that believe the OL is NOT a finished product yet. We need a mauling run-blocking guard to start opposite an aging but decent Pete Kendall (this will hopefully be addressed via the draft). We also are not set a RT either.

But Edwin Mulitalo would not have been the answer. Does anyone find it interesting that the Lions, with the most pathetic FO in the NFL, were the ones to sign them? They aren't "out-smarting" anyone anytime soon. They don't "know something" that we don't. The Lions suck.

I'll say it again. Tangini has earned my trust, and if they pass on a FA, its usually been for a good reason. I'll trust them over any fellow fan's armchair GM opinion.

Unless offensive linemen fall into our laps in the June 1st cuts, we'll probably upgrade the OL in rounds 2 and/or 3 of the draft. The FO will not neglect the OL like Bradway did. There just aren't that many quality offensive linemen available in free agency, so why overspend on an over-the-hill veteran?

I agree with you but look at all the money we have saved and all the DEs we have signed on the cheap! While NE & BUFFALO get stronger, we save money!

You build teams through the draft. Not overpaid, aging free agents. When the players you want are NOT available on the FA market, you don't just sign someone JUST TO SIGN THEM. That's how teams make huge mistakes with the direction they are heading.

When did Buffalo get stronger? Last I saw they lost McGahee, Clements and Fletcher-Baker. They added a 3rd and a 7th and kept the A-train. Fearsome. Did they sign some awesome back-up OG and I'm not aware?
