Jaworski to replace Theismann?

SUNSHINE OUT AT MNF

A source with knowledge of the situation tells us that ESPN is yanking analyst Joe Theismann from Monday Night Football. Earlier this year, the network said that the lineup for the weekly NFL broadcast would return unchanged in 2007.

Per the source, the likely replacement for Theismann is Ron Jaworski, who performed well (despite wearing ladies' glasses) during the back half of a season-opening Monday night doubleheader and who currently is handling booth duties for the ESPN/ABC coverage of the Arena Football League.

It's unknown whether Theismann will be reassigned to other ESPN NFL-related shows, or possibly to ESPN's college football coverage. After Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire weren't shifted with Theismann from Sunday night to Monday night, Patrick and Maguire landed with the network's NCAA broadcasts.

The problem, as we understand it, is that Theismann received a lucrative contract in the waning days of Mark Shapiro's tenure, and the network is unlikely to eat the balance of it. We're told that there are at least two years remaining on the deal.

Per a source with knowledge of the in-house dynamics at ESPN, Theismann and Tony Kornheiser didn't mix well, and there's a school of thought that Kornheiser would be better without having to worry about tiptoeing on eggshells with Theismann. (And we agree with that. Completely.)

The information came to us in response to an item we posted earlier on Saturday indicating that ESPN had offered a spot on Monday Night Football to former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells.

Stay tuned.

I like this move if it happens. Jaworski is great at the X's and O's.

Kornheiser knows like nothing about football or football players, but he's at least a likeable guy. Still don't know what he's doing in the booth though. Theismann is arrogant, dislikeable, and stupid; always out to show how he knows more than everyone but when he opens his mouth shows the opposite. At least Kornheiser knows enough to know that he knows nothing. But unlike Collinsworth (who does the same but is actually smart), Theismann just rambles on with that obnoxious voice & personality & says one dumb thing after another. Tirico is good also. Calls a good game & seems like a decent guy.

Almost anyone in the world would be better than Theismann.

yeah jaws > theisman, and besides jaws picked the jets to go to the sb in 05!!

Jaworski picked the Jets to go to the SB with Herm coaching, Chad at QB (coming off rotator cuff surgery no less), a 32 year-old HB getting 400 touches, 1 WR, a TE who can't catch, no RT, a sub-par LT, no NT, and a rookie kicker in the windy Meadowlands? Maybe he's dumber than Theismann after all.

Tirico is all right as play by play guy- Jaworski would be such an improvement over Theisman- Kornheiser is terrible and should get canned also.

I agree, Joey T. stinks.....adds very little and will rarely say anything negative about players -- particularly quarterbacks. He also comes off as an arrogant airhead. Kornheiser is doing the best he can, but what can really add that Dennis Miller didn't?

Miller was likeable fellow, but what was he doing in a football both for a marquee game? Same with Kornheiser.

Dennis Miller's own mother doesn't think he's "likeable."
