Alk
What an awesome feeling. We took the training wheels off last fall and worked on it a little bit to no avail. Just got the bike back out again earlier this week and today was his third time out. I just walked along holding his shoulder until I felt him balance and would let go then catch him as soon as he started to fall. About three or four times of that and he just took off and went for about a block until he crashed into the grass. He jumped right back on though and did it all over again. Pretty damn exciting day, probably my proudest moment as a father up to this point.

Alk
:yahoo: awesome alk!!! make sure he wears a helmet!! now is the time instilling good habits! We're going to go get him a new helmet & knee and elbow pads soon. We told him as soon as he learned to ride we would get him any kind that he wanted so we have to find a place with a really good selection first. Alk
Good work, Alk. Started doing this with my li'l man last Fall and he still hasn't mastered it. Here's the way I finally figured out to teach him. You just walk along and hold onto him and figure out which way he leans. Grant ALWAYS leaned to the left. So I just stood on the right and put my arm on his shoulder and let him lean against it. Do this for a couple days until he starts figuring out how to get his balance. Eventually you'll feel him taking the weight off of your arm. Once you feel him balance just let go. He'll probably freak out the first couple times. The first time Grant actually took off on his own he was giggling like a little girl until he crashed into the grass.

Alk
Hell, shouldn't that one be driving by now? Did you two celebrate the bike thing with a beer? No, I celebrated by going home an finishing the painting in the bedroom. Once that was done I did enjoy a huge glass of Crown Royal & Sour though. He has learned how to drive a golf cart by the way and has only managed to hit a couple trees.
