Tim Rattay, who played the past two seasons with Tampa Bay, has been contacted by the Falcons about their backup quarterback position.

"We've had some conversations with them, but nothing is imminent right now," Jim Steiner, Rattay's agent, said Sunday.

With the trade of Matt Schaub, the Falcons don't have a quarterback on the roster who has played in an NFL game in the past three seasons.

They signed Chris Redman last week, but he hasn't played since the 2003 season. D.J. Shockley and James Kilian have not played in any regular-season games.

Rattay, a seven-year veteran, has started 18 games and played in 36 games. He spent five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before his stint with Tampa Bay. During his career, Rattay has completed 60.7 percent of his passes, thrown 28 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

The Falcons also are in discussions with Anthony Wright, who was Cincinnati's No. 2 quarterback last season.

Three teams are interested in Wright, according to his agent Joel Segal.

I know Vick is a better athlete than quarterback, but he has played in a game, hasn't he?

I wish the Jets would have looked at him instead of Marques

Why? Only thing Rattay achieves is making Chad Pennington's arm look like John Elway's in comparison. Rattay may as well play unlimited High Arc Softball, because that's what his throws look like.

The Jets need someone who can put some heat on Clemens..I think he needs to be pushed to keep improving and Marques cannot do that. At least Rattay has played in the NFL and won some games.

Rattay wouldn't just "put heat" on Clemens, he would probably outplay him in camp and preseason and win the back-up job just like Ramsey did last year.

Only if the true goal is to have a downgrade in armstrength if he comes in.
