To Chad Or Not To Chad

I'm not saying chad is better than brady, but I will be loyal to whoever our quaterback is. weather it's chad, or clemmons.

I didn't mean to call you out. Sorry about that.

I understand your support for the blokes on your team. That's cool.

I was trying to say that I would gladly take Rhodes, Coles, Cotch and Vilma to play for the Pats.

They are all great football players and I would welcome them in New England.

ok insted of sucking tom brady's D*&K here at jet nation why don't all of you that want to praise tommy boy go buy his jersey and start rooting for that patsy's? u might as well. you've giving the real jet fans a bad name.

I'm not saying chad is better than brady, but I will be loyal to whoever our quaterback is. weather it's chad, or clemmons.

I'm not sucking Brady's dick. I hate the guy. I hate him as a quarterback. I hate him as an athlete. I hate him as a person. I can't even bring myself to respect his play on the field. But I can at least be realistic and acknowledge that he is one of, if not the best, quarterbacks in the NFL today. I can't respect him for that, but I can admit it.

Chad Pennington is not on that level. And don't say that I'm not a "real" Jet fan because I don't support Chad Pennington. I want him to do well if it means the Jets do well. But, more often than not, he holds the Jets back rather than propel him forward. I like to support a struggling player and hope that they'll get better. I do. I really do. But, you can only do it so long before you just have to admit that they're not what you thought they were, and your expectations are unrealistic. I realized that after Chad's latest injury. He's a shell of his 2002 form, or even his 2004 form where we had the playoffs run. He's just not the same.

And as hard as it may be to believe, I hate saying that. He's broken my heart, though.

JJ....What is your point. Chad is better than Tom Brady? His 17 TD's and 16INT's impressed you last yr?

Considering Chad Put-Put-Pennington hasn't won a god damn thing in his entire football career I wouldn't ever compare him to Brady again. It's silly.

No, and I think you would all know that is NOT my point. Those are stats.

My point is the same as it was. Chad's more than capable. But it's never about just one player, like these conversations are, which is what fans always harp on, it's really about the essence of team.

CP's accountable and at that position, every team needs exactly that.

He's not the problem. It's the opposite. His and OUR improvement will coincide IMO. You'll see.

Those 16 ints will be cut in half in 08. Mark my words.

Time will tell, but I'm sure of it. Why? Just read my first response to you, about 3rd down passing-pressure passing, etc.

Anyway, key is to stay healthy.

Btw, Chad is a player who improves with a healthy offseason, esp one without any physical limitations on him from a rehab.

I don't think any realistic JET fan would honestly compare Chad to Brady.

One growing trend though is that without Weiss , Brady has been JAG in the play-offs. In fact if not for SD collapse his record would be under .500 in the post season w/out Weiss.

This season also put an end to the Manning-Brady debate for good.

How?

Peyton threw 7 INTs in 153 post season attempts this year. Tom has 9 INTs in 486 career playoff attempts.

This is typical of Jet fan not seeing the forrest for the trees. When the debate is Chad V Brady. Which is not a debate, but a mercey killing. It is, "give Chad the talent Tom has and he would have won a Superbowl or two by now." Yet, this post season, in your words mind you, settled the debate between Tom and Peyton. That statement is ridiculous.

Peyton has Pro Bowl talent surrounding him on offense. Peyton's receivers have 8 Pro Bowl selections, his OL has 5 selections and his backs have 2 since 2001. Tom's receivers have one Pro Bowl selection and his backs have one. Yet, in your mind, Peyton struggling through a 7 INT and 70.5 settled the debate. Of course, he raised his game with 79 ratings and 81 ratings in his last two playoff games.

Seriously, how is the debate over? Tom had a cast of nobodies to throw to and still had his team a 3rd down away from the Superbowl and this is evidence? Do you think Peyton would have broken a rating of 50 is Marvin, Wayne and Addai were replaced by Reche, Jabbar, slow Dillon and busted shoulder Maroney? No f'ing way.

This post season did end the debate. Brady is the winner. Peyton backed his way to a title. His D constantly bailed him out. How you make an argument one way for you, but are blind to the same argument and reasoning is borderline moronic.

They will both end up in gay porn flicks 5 years from now... so why debate anything? :)

Peyton was hillarious on SNL though.. that does give him an advantage...

i lived through vinnie stinking it up and chad sitting.was even told chad didn't have arm by fireman Ed.i love the guy,He's too limited, overrated!Clemens was picked because he has the arm.mobility and the moxy to lead the Jets.it's only a matter of time before he takes over. Also we can't open offense, because pennington can't stretch field.he'll lead us to playoffs, maybe, but in todays nfl you have to have a qb who can through the ball downfield.61 pct completion on 5 yd passes.i can do that.So lets root for clemens.an athletic pennington.Chad will be a great coach someday.

Great first post, I agree with almost everything. You can win a superbowl with a game managing QB but you have to have a great RB duo which is what we have, a great pass protection o line to keep your qb upright and time to throw, and a def. that wins the turnover game.

On a side note Brady is (and I hate it that it's true) a better qb then chad. Peyton better then Brady. And you never hear patsies busting on Brady when he had a great def. The pats didn't lose in the playoffs because of Brady. They lost because they refused to re sign their free agents and their coaches. Which is hard for any team when they get successful.

Lets get real, Chad is not the answer and never was the answer, we are only a qaurterback away from being a legit contender for the supe bowl. He had his chance... i dont know why he's still starting... everybody is sick of the p*ssy loft passes, it might work against sh*t teams but never against power houses or even when it counts. The curl routes too... when coles cuts in, it takes the ball about 7 seconds to get to his hands and by that time the corner is all over it, we need a man at qb not a boy.

for those of you down on pennington it might be worth giving him the benefit of the doubt. here's why:

first, outside of the 2002 season pennington has either been injured or recovering from injury. even last season cp spent his offseason rehabbing rather than following the normal strength and conditioning program of a quarterback. (besides the fact that cp's rotator cuff injury was unprecedented in football and recovery (and recovery time) was unpredictable. in fact it was reported at the time that such injuries to pitchers in baseball for example could take up to 2 years to recover from.) with this said i would look for cp to be stronger this season both from offseason conditioning and from the recovery process. (personally i thought cp looked tired at the end of last year)

second, cp and his supporting cast learned a whole new offensive system last year. a complicated system. everyone has acknowledged how difficult and challenging that was. it would be unfair to have expected more than an adequate offensive performance last year (the same is true of the defense btw). cp is a good leader. schottenheimer is a good coach. and the players have all bought in and are very teachable. i would look for the offense under cp to perform better this coming season. maybe even much better. there's a lot to be said for continuity.

third, cp was hampered by a pretty dismal running game last season that was even trying to find itself for most of it. the addition of thomas jones should help cp and the offense be more productive and more balanced. i would also expect leon washington to be more effective this season coming off his rookie season and playing the role of a change of pace back.

and lastly, all of the intangibles that cp brings to the game like his football intelligence, his ability to read defenses, to audible at the line, run the no huddle, his awareness of gametime situations, leadership, work ethic, etc., will only be magnified not diminished with the continuity and progress of the offense this coming season.

all in all my point is that we don't really have a complete body of work from cp to judge how good he really is or will be. going into this coming season i believe he has a lot of upside and as i said above it would only be fair to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Eric Mangini thinks...

Chad > Kellen

and the gap hasnt gotten and tighter... it went from an open competition last year to being Chads job to lose this year...

For all the people that wonder why Chad is the QB... its becuase multiple coaches who know more about football than you could dream of beleive in him and think he can win.

sorry, but i must have misplaced your response to my post.

if you have time perhaps you could re-post it because i'd be interested to know which points you disagreed with and why you didn't think pennington has a reasonable chance to perform better this year.

Whatever floats your boat, ecurb. But you are talking out of your a##. You have no idea what Mangini thinks of Kellen or Chad. Not saying I do, but I dont pretend to, unlike you.

Do you wanna make a bet that Chad is gone by 2009? Didnt think so.

That's a good idea for a bet actually. We got vcash, we should do it something, maybe set different times though. What do you think of Chad lasting out the year?

They passed on THREE franchise QB's now for a 2nd round project QB, they know Chad can get it done or they would have brought in some serious veteran competition like Carr... not tuliooioisosioisosp

IM not talking about 2009, Chad is there guy in 06' and now heading into 07' and if he does well in 07' he will be the guy heading into 08'... they like him... otherwise they would have brought in more than just a 2nd round QB to compete...

Chad Pennington averaged 300 yds a game, Jets team offense ranked 4th overall in the entire NFL, team defense ranked 8th overall, 8th against the run, and 6th against the pass. Finished 10-6, lost a playoff game.

Let's see what happens in 2007.

Uh, what? If by "averaged 300 yds a game," you meant, "didn't average anywhere near 300 yds a game," then yeah, you're right.

That last comment makes no sense at all. Tuisasopopo will be the #3 QB, Kellen will be the #2.

Put your money where your mouth is. I dont want to make it too much money, maybe just a friendly $10 bet.....

I'd like to bet you that Chad is ousted as the starter during or before the 2008 season at some point, as long as Kellen remains healthy. And I see no reason as why Kellen shouldnt stay healthy as he will be on the bench. Deal?
