Bugg
has any yankee fan NOT picked them to win the WS? I did. There will come a point between injuries, bad decisions(Not having Hughes in the rotation right now) and the bad pitching manager that is Joe Torre that the Yanks' run will stop, for a year anyway. I really don't get why Torre's still here. His mismanagement of pitching is criminal. If he's a great manager of egos, this A-rod thing would be a nonstory. He's had Bob Brenly, Mike Sciocia twice, Jack Mckeon, Terry Francona and Jim Leyland beat him senseless in the postseason. And there comes a point in any job you've just stayed too long. SlugORama99
Their pitching is better than the Mets and Cardinals, and most of the other teams in the NL central. The only starter on their staff that would make the Mets rotation would be Sheets. I'll admit he's great when healthy, but Capuano-Bush-Suppan-Vargas is better than Glavine-Hernandez-Maine-Perez-Pelfrey-Martinez? That's just silly. I think Capuano, Bush and Suppan would all make our rotation. I think Maine has a chance to be very good but those three Brewer pitchers are underated and I would take them in a second. In fact I would make us strong WS candidates if they were our 3,4 and 5 starters.

None of them have proven much so far in their careers and only one of them (Suppan?) has any postseason experience. I would not feel confident in the play-offs and WS with guys like that. I'm all for having young pitching, but not at the expense of their experience short-circuiting a championship run. Maine and Perez both proved that they can pitch well in the postseason last year. We know Glavine and El Duque can (don't forget Pedro). The only x-factor in the postseason would be Pelfrey and how often do you need a #5 in October? You're forgetting that they are talking about the regular season, not the postseason. They're picking that the Brewers will MAKE the playoffs, not necesarilly thrive in them once they reach that level. While I do NOT see the Mets missing the playoffs (given how far they separated themselves from the rest of the NL East last season), I wouldn't doubt seeing the Brewers slip in as well. They have a ton of young talent and balance for a team with such a low budget.

Sheets, Capuano, Bush, and Suppan would all probably make the Mets rotation right now. Maybe one of Bush or Suppan would get replaced by Hernandez, but probably not considering he's 38.
