Teachers to stop teaching about the Holocaust.

I think this is less a political "church and state" issue as it is a fact versus fiction issue. The Holocaust should be taught in school history classes because it, in fact, is a part of world history. Because someone chooses to think something didn't occur and to further call that a part of their religion should not change the fact that it is a fact. If I choose to think that this war in Iraq is not actually happening can I take offense to it being taught in schools? No. That would be asinine.

This is very interesting since I have been working in the school system and teaching some. I will be taking my certification class this summer and will be aiming for a position in the history dept. at the school I work at.

If I have any control over what I can teach, then in a World History course this will be taught. This is a very big (yet horrible) part of history.

So a handful of crazy germans decided to exterminate the jews, and we are gonna not talk about it because it might upset the muslims, who were not any part in the atrocity and are not in any way mentioned in regard to it? WTF dude?

If someone cares that much about their religion as to put that before the study of things like history and science, then that is their prerogative to set their child at such a disadvantage in life with their education, but you will have to pay for that and send them to a private school that is aligned with your backwards way of thinking.

I don't see them ever thinking of changing the science curriculum to appease the christians who believe that woman came from a freaking rib. And did anyone ever think that maybe teaching about the holocaust was shameful and embarrassing to Germans? How about the Japanese kids and Pearl Harbor? Heck, what if a few crazy white people decided that teaching a racially mixed school about slavery in the south was bad for race relations among the students, do we just forget our history?

There is a very well known saying, "those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." What kind of world are we helping to create if this is how we decide to educate our children?

Wow. Thank god I'm not in High School anymore, the Holocaust is an awesome thing to learn about as its very interesting and even if you didn't like him, you learn about one of the greatest leaders of all time, if not greatest to you then at least admit, smartest.

Joebaby I totally agree with all your points. Being someone who loves studying and reading about history, I think that just because a certain event or time period in the past was dark or bad does not mean we should ignore it. The Revolutionary War was not a good time, yet it helped us gain our Independence. WWII and the Depression were dark times for America and other nations but it is still a very vital part of history.

If we were to omit or ignore every single negative or dark thing in our learning of history then we would not actually be learning anything.

What a surprise, once again the British show they're run by a bunch of limp wristed cowards.

After all, this is the country in which some councils have banned Christmas, preferring to call it Winterval, or other such names, to avoid offending others. The country where the leading opposition politician tells people to "hug a hoodie" because it's not his fault he's a criminal little s**t. The country where they're planning on releasing thousands of criminals, because the jails might get a wee bit overcrowded.

And to think I'm moving there in a few weeks.

The Muslims were very close to the Third Reich. They were involved in the holocaust to a certain degree.

Well, that does it for religion courses in colleges then. Because, as an Athiest, I'm personally offended when I'm told that Jesus was real. I will run to the Supreme Court asap.

Even atheists have to believe that Jesus was real... The Messiah? No, but He DID exist.

Really? No, we don't.

There is no such thing, everything has been made up. I don't believe a thing and many people don't either.

I wasn't there, I didn't see it, it didn't happen and there was no whatever you want to call him/her/it.

That's a stretch. Besides, Muslims are not against learning about the holocaust because of their involvement, they are against it because their hatred for the jews makes them want to erase something from history that might give sympathy to the jews.
