wow, very cool...

How much does it go for? Also does it let you record TV shows to your hard-drive?

Will it play HD movies from your PC? I guess in other words, whats the max resolution.

I haven't gotten one yet, but definitely want to try it out. How is the picture quality for the various podcasts and itunes store video? And on what size tv are you watching it?

It is all about the source. Movies from iTunes and ripped from DVD (legally) look good, better than DirecTV, but not as good as DVD. Some podcasts looks great (MacBreak) and others just look ok (Diggnation).

42" Panasonic Plasma.

How much is it BZ? $$$$?

No TV tuner, and no DVD bay,40GB hard drive..just an ipod base?

Actually it is more than that, if you check out the apple site they have a nice presentation on there. It is a small box that has the hdmi/componentvideo/optical audio connections for your tv, and wifi built in to transfer content back and forth from your computer. IT syncs with itunes so you can do things like transfer unwatched programming from your pc to your itv harddrive, it can also directly stream content bypassing the itv drive, and play music and display pics from your computer. MS was before this with windows media and the xbox, but this seems like a cheaper, easier, and more streamlined solution. IT is like apple's handling of wifi, they didn't invent it, but they were the first to really incorporate it and bring it to the masses easily. DVR functions would have been nice, but that probably would have pushed the costs up quite a bit, and I think they needed this device at this price to really crack open the video/tv/movie market on itunes like the ipod did for online music sales.

It works on both pc and mac, but of course with things like iphoto and imovie your experience will be more enjoyable and feature rich with a mac, which makes sense because in that configuration they control all the hardware and software in the experience.

Me? A PC? HA!

I am using two Macs...

- 15" Macbook Pro (Core Duo, 2.1 Ghz, 1 GB Ram)

- 24" iMac (Core Duo 2.3 Ghz, 3 GB Ram)

All connecting on an 802.11n network (Apple's Airport of course).

  • 2 weeks later...
People did feel the same way when the ipod was introduced.

Some did... of course I bought two a day after they came out and have never looked back.

After two weeks with the Apple TV, I can tell you it is great. More and more Podcasts are coming out in the standard and movies look great.
