El Gringo Loco Posted April 4, 2007 Share Posted April 4, 2007 From IGN: April 3, 2007 - According to a recent Bloomberg report on the sales of Wii vs. PS3 in Japan, Nintendo's new console has gained an overwhelming lead over Sony's HD console, selling at a 2:1 ratio over Playstation 3 to continue the Big N's domination of Japan. Based on a sales research report by Enterbrain Inc., Nintendo has sold 1.95 million units of Wii through March 25. In comparison, Sony's console has sold 812,000 systems in its five months on the shelves since November 11. It is also important to remember that Wii launched a month after PlayStation 3 in Japan. So while Nintendo's console continues to generate a profit on each system sold (as previously announced by Nintendo), sales also double Sony's console, expanding the profit gap between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft substantially based on previous cost/profit information on hardware sales. US sales figures are almost 2 to 1 in favor of the Wii also. March numbers for the US have not been released yet. joebabyny Posted April 4, 2007 Share Posted April 4, 2007 I would say that makes sense given the price, the strong base of nintendo branded characters and the loyalty of gamers in Japan, and the lack of quantity of killer games in the ps3 thus far. The addition of the bluray in the ps3 is not really much of a selling point over there as a lot of japanese consumers already own those. Also, much as is the case here in the states, I am sure that in addition to the customers who own just the Wii, there are a fair number of households who own one in addition to the ps3. I a actually thinking of getting one at some point and a lot of people have a Wii and a 360/PS3... Whats more important is that the PS3 has hit the 3 million sold mark faster than the 360 and that is even with it being in short supply and JUST released in EU... The PS3 outsold the 360 in Japan in like 1 weekend... and is currently outselling it in the US and EU... Everyone seems to forget that with Xbox you have a lot of people that bought the first system only to be screwed over when Microsoft ditched it... while Sony has 105 million happy PS2 customers who are still getting new games... Sony's consoles just last longer and that weighs heavy on people... Also Microsoft has pretty much admitted that Sony knows what they are doing by trying to now catch up to the PS3 with the 360 "elite", but I dont think "elite" is the proper word for a system that still doesnt include rechargeable controllers, wireless, and still only uses DVD's... Started hearing whispers about it back when people first started reporting the 360 "elite". If it drops down to the 360 price,i'd definitely look into grabbing one as I'm really getting sick of no one ever having any wii's in stock. I *think* by "tech geek" he just meant someone who likes to have cutting edge stuff... if he didnt then I guess I should kick him in the face The PS3 price drop is just a rumor... they most likely wont drop it... they are already losing too much money on each console... and things like Bluetooth, Blu-ray, rechargeable controllers included with the system dont come cheap... JetsMan57 Posted April 5, 2007 Share Posted April 5, 2007 Fact is all 3 are good systems, I think the XBOX 360 right now is a little more better THAN THE PS3 but thats expected because the PS3 just came out. When the XBOX orginally came out I thought the PS2 was still a better system for that first year. Then the XBOX took off. I chose to go with the PS3 because of the blu ray player and th efact that I think it has more long term potential. Microsoft admitted way back that eventually they will have to make another system just to compete with the PS3 and they have already released another beefed up version of the 360. That would send off the alarms if i were a d360 owner. Microsoft wants their gamers to by an HD-DVD add on when it is pretty safe to say Blu-Ray is going to win that battle making it obsolete. JMHO. Resistance already sold 1 million copies (thats 1/3 of all systems out there own a copy which is a very good attach rate) and it sold the copies faster than any 360 launch title... I would say that is a hell of a start for launch titles... Not to mention they have on the Horizon - Final Fantasy - Gran Turismo 5 - Killzone and some others...
