Matt39
Well I couldnt think of any broadcaster who completely trashes their team, but holy sht Girardi's train of excuses last night was ridiculous.
Scott Dierking
I didn't watch Pettite's entire performance last night, so my comments may not be entirely fair, but what I did see of him was teh same guy that I saw in teh NL over the last 2 years. for some reson, there are times that Pettite just looks afraid to throw a strike. He tries to nibble, nibble, nibble, and just seems afraid of his stuff. That happened so often the last few years in the NL. I can't claim that I watched a lot of Pettite in his hey-day, but was he always such a nibbler. He just does not seem to trust his stuff. Posada was no big help either. AFJF
From what I saw of Petitte last night he looked fine. He wasn't outstanding but he was about what I expected. Some people don't realize that Petitte isn't known for being a first half pitcher (let alone first start of the season) but he has established himself as one of the best pitchers in the game after the all-star break sporting a 2.51 ERA over the past five seasons in the second half. IMO he was solid considering the weather conditions and no support defensively.

Honestly I dont read much in to it at all. His track record says he's a second half guy so as long as he's solid in the first half and continues his second half tendencies I'll be happy. Clemens may be coming on board at some point this season as well but I think Andy will be fine with or without him.
Bob
I didn't see anything last night that worried me for the long term. These errors need to stop, though. So, Pettitte wasn't sharp on a cold night in April. BFD.
Matt39
. BFD. Mets fans seem to disagree, Bob. Shocking.

A guy who seems to nibble. What little I knew of of Pettite from teh AL, that did not seem to be his MO. he did seem to want to nibble when his elbow was a little balky. Not trying to make a connection.

Bob
question: do you think the yanks are holding on to girardi to replace torre? No. Mattingly will do that. Personally, I don't want either one of them.
SouthernJet
question: do you think the yanks are holding on to girardi to replace torre? No.They are holding on to both so they can get in Guiness Book of Records for longest combined length of coaches noses in sports history.
