Hester is Madden's first 100-speed man

Interesting fact here, courtesy of gamespot.com:

Professional football players covet two things in each annual installment of Madden NFL--the cherished role of cover athlete and good in-game ratings. There is still a bit of time left until all we find out which player can boast about being on the cover, but we do know one player who is going to be happy with at least one of his ratings.

Devin Hester, the kick returner for the Chicago Bears, is the first player in the series' history to land a perfect rating in speed. An Electronic Arts representative confirmed to GameSpot a report on ESPN.com saying that Hester was given a 100 rating in speed in the upcoming Madden NFL 08, beating the previous mark of 99 set by Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson, Randy Moss, and others.

"That's just about the best thing you could have told me," Hester told ESPN. "It's an honor. I don't know what to say, really."

Hester tore up opposing special teams last year, returning an NFL-record six kicks for touchdowns in his rookie season. For good measure, he returned the first kickoff of this year's Super Bowl for a touchdown, the first time the feat has ever been accomplished.

As for the rest of the speedster's ratings? "My defensive awareness was low--too low," Hester said, "and I definitely need to break more tackles. On a few of my returns last year I feel like I showed what I can do in that category."

Thats retarded. You're telling me that Devin Hester is the fastest player in NFL history? Come on.

I dont think Madden has been around that long.... maybe in the last decade or so... thats what they are saying...

Wow, yeah that's pretty stupid if you ask me. You would think at least they would reserve that for the fastest man in the NFL. I guess all in all it won't a difference since he's just a scrub CB and a KR.

I don't think thats the case. They had to change somethings and thats not a bad way to start.

Giving a player 100 speed isn't a bad way to start? Are you $hitting me? That is somewhere around page 1,735 in the "Ways EA Could Improve Madden" book.

Quit your whining. You know you're gonna buy it. :)

I'm not whining, I probably will buy it I just found that comment kind of funny. That giving a player 100 speed was some great start to revamping a game that hasn't changed in like 6 years.

Justin Miller should get a 100 then. He won the nfl's fastest man award this year, I just watched it on the nfl network the other day. And I actually believe he is just as fast as Hester if not faster, and i'm not just saying that cause i'm a jets fan.

Well those 1,734 ways to make it better is not working, their not event trying to make it better.

The idiots at EA correlate good kick returner with fast. Not every good kick returner is fast. Dante Hall never was really that fast either, he was elusive and could accelerate like a mother f#cker.

Yeah. I didn't mean to jump on you personally heh. EA is moronic the way they do those ratings though.

Charles woodson was a 99? are you kidding? I have never heard of the guy being overally fast, i mean of course all CB's are fast, but woodson was always, great hands, form, and instincts. whatever...

Well he was the Heisman trophy winner therefore he was hyped as one of the top CBs in the NFL. The way madden makes a good CB in the game is by giving him ridiculous speed whether he's that fast in real life or not.

Hopefully Madden will be even better this year.. cannot wait for it to come out.

I'm surprised that of all people, Devin Hester is the first man to be 100, I'd give him 98 or 99, not 100.. I don't think he's the fastest player in the NFL. Heck, didn't JMillz (Justin Miller) win that award recently?

i remember in madden 05, chad had like 92 thp. i would trad for coles and bomb it out to moss and him the whole game. i suck at madden now though... i just like the franchise mode, but i hope ea incorporates some of the nfl head coach features into future maddens. or, theyll just change the rosters like every year:)

Justin Miller is the fastest player in the NFL so he should get the 100.

He's not the fastest man in the NFL, he was just the fastest of the three that chose to run in the race. I would bet money there are at least 5 players faster than him that didn't take part. All that being said, the first player with 100 speed should have been Darrell Green. Just a couple years ago he almost screwed around and won the NFL's fastest man after being retired for I don't know how many years.

I think if hester was in the race, miller would have won.
