SoFlaJets
Patriots | Team talks trade with Redskins Sun, 8 Apr 2007 11:54:32 -0700 Albert Breer, of the Boston Herald, reports the New England Patriots have been rumored to have been talking about a trade with the Washington Redskins, which would ship the Patriots 28th pick and CB Asante Samuel to the Redskins for the sixth overall pick. This would allow the Patriots to draft Louisiana State S LaRon Landry, an impact player who would be ready to start on the season opener. Patriots | Samuel wants a deal on par with top cornerbacks Sun, 8 Apr 2007 11:43:11 -0700 Albert Breer, of the Boston Herald, reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel want a long-term deal similar to San Francisco 49ers CB Nate Clements' deal, which was worth $80 million over eight years with a $22 million guarantee. He might be willing to come in under that, but he wants more than the $16 million guaranteed that Denver Broncos CB Dre' Bly received, since he is the No. 2 cornerback and is almost four years Samuel's senior. CoachTsurfing
Oh my goodness. All these rumors involving the Skins is killing me. Why aren't we in there trying to trade say Miller, Houston, Barton, or any of our second tier players with our first for the number 6 pick. Even if we didn't stay at 6 we could make a killing if the right guy slips and then trade back out of the 6th spot.
PeterNorth09
I think this would actually be good trade for Washington. Asante is excellent and almost worth the 6th pick by himself. This makes more sense than trading for Briggs though I don't know why Dan Snyder is so obsessed with unloading this pick when one of his team's biggest needs is DT and Alan Branch will be there. Alk
Yeah, makes perfect sense. We ship our top CB to Washington then draft a Safety. WTF do these writers smoke for breakfast anyway?

LOL, well it does say they would be drafting a safety. But, still you are right on. I think half the time they just throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks. Curran and Michael Smith has gone on to bigger and better things.
Jetlag
How would Washington be getting fleeced? As Alk was just pointed out, NE would be losing a top CB and a first rounder for a Safety and since he's the 6th pick he'll see a decent chunk of change for an unknown player. As opposed to a larger chunk for known star. And NE would be making out how?

WHich makes the rumor even more ridiculous.

Wouldn't you pat fans be surprised to sit at #6?

This makes more sense than trading for Briggs though I don't know why Dan Snyder is so obsessed with unloading this pick when one of his team's biggest needs is DT and Alan Branch will be there. this trade makes so little sense for washington that i definitely believe it's a possibility. washington just re-signed smoot, they have a #1 tied up in carlos roger, and still have springs on the roster. asante will want a huge clements like contract - $20M+ guaranteed. if the redskins want a corner so badly why not try to move DOWN a few spots in the draft and still have any CB they want in the draft for LESS $. From what I had heard, Branch's draft stock went down a bit as apparently he showed up to the Combine out of weight and sluggish. Teams are starting to worry about him a bit. Would be a decent pickup for Washington, but with all these trades, what the hell is Washington's cap situation like?

Jetlag
Well they would be getting fleeced. Samuel is worth a late 1st. round pick but nothing near what they're talking about doing. I would say he's worth a mid 1st. Which IMO would make it "fair". But the reality is this. The Patriots would be giving up 2 players, 1 already a Pro-Bowler and a top 30 player for a a top 10 safety. A position that I feel Pioli and BB wouldn't want to waste so much on when they could probably develop the talent much better.
4HCrew
with Washington's infatuation for high priced players this for some reason seems like an option. At the same time who knows what NE thinks about Asante and his demands..

Say G'bye to Samuel as well New England but get ready to say hello to LaRon Landry, the next great safety to enter the NFL in the past 5-6 seasons.
