bitonti
also note on these Gay and Andrews visits the Jets could just be doing due dilligence as both are UDFA after the season and unlikely to re-up with their current teams.

Bit I guess your point is that maybe the Jets go after them next year when they are UFA. The problem with that is its no guarantee they would want to play for the Jets as I'm sure other teams will be interested. If they think any of these two guys can help them then sign them and work out a new contract.
Sperm Edwards
This would be great. Can he play RG ? Right guard was his position last year. Filled in for a few games last year. 6'7 is kind of tall for a guard, particularly if Clemens steps in at some point.

This is a no-brainer, the Jets should be all over this guy, the hell with Randall Gay. The only catch here is the Jets have to make Andrews a big enough offer to deter the Bengals from matching it. And then I would still go after Blalock or Grubbs in the draft. You sign Andrews and draft Blalock or Grubbs and the O-Line is literally set for years to come with no holes to worry about and some considerable depth to boot. That's something the Jets haven't had on the O-Line in 6 or 7 years.
gang_green03
I don't know about giving up a 2nd rounder for this guy. That's a pretty high pick and I don't like giving up high draft picks. I don't know much about him though, so if he's the real deal than go for it. Would definitely rather have him than Gay.

If he's so great why hasn't he been a consistent starter. But lets so we do get him for a third round. I would then think we don't need to pick up blalock or grubbs and then focus on the defensive side of the ball. Just my opinion though.

Not disregarding your opinion here CoachT, but look at the big picture for a minute. Andrews was originally drafted in the 4th round by the Bengals. The fact that the Bengals tendered him at 1.3 million with a 2nd round pick as compensation tells me they think pretty highly of him in light of where he was actually drafted. I would go on to say that Bengals definitely have plans for this guy as a starter this season so the Jets need to offer this guy a decent contract to deter the Bengals from matching it. I think Andrews is easily worth one of our 2nd rounders especially considering how late in the 2nd round ours fall. Then go after Blalock or Grubbs and your O-Line is set for years and has quality depth to boot.
jetfan4hire
it should also be noted that he only played one season of organized football before being drafted which makes me think that he is just now starting to develop

If he is that good, and I will be honest I haven't seen him play very often, if at all. Then sure take a flyer on him, but lets see if the Bungles will take a third instead. PeterNorth09
Any way we can trade one of our 2nd round picks for Whitworth instead?
Jetsfan80
Is Andrews really worth a 3rd round pick? He has tons of potential but he has rarely gotten the opportunity to show it.

You'd want to trade a 2nd rd pick for a guy who has never started a game and then still draft an OG in the 1st rd? Thats extreme overkill IMO and it would not be in the best interersts of the team. We need help on both sides of the ball.

Personally I prefer keeping our 2nd-rounders. But if Cincy thought he was nothing, they would place more value on a potential draft pick than this player & would have tendered him for a 4th-rounder, not a 2nd-rounder. This is 1 of the moves where I'd have to trust Tangini's judgement on this player, but I dont think we'd give up a 2nd rd pick for him. From what I understand, these things can be negotiated, so the Jets could offer their 3rd rd pick and the Bengals could choose to accept that or not I believe. Stonehands
It seems like things happen each year with these RFA guys at the draft. I would not be surprised to see a 4th or 5th coupled with a conditional next year going for one of these two.
#27TheDominator
Everybody has money. There are plenty of guys that got tendered higher than they would have in the past. Some of these guys probably wouldn't have gotten tendered at all. No reason for the Bengals to let him walk when they could potentially get a pick or worst case have a reliable back-up for money that probably won't dent their cap space. I'm glad the Jets are looking at everybody, but I'm not so fired up on giving up picks for these guys.
