The iPhone will still be out in June. Yeah, saw that, and the delay is due to the iphone, but what they said was they had to pull people off the QC team for osX and put them on QC for the iphone to get that out for the promised june launch, causing the delay. It didn't say anything about incompatibilities. The new OS looks slick, but I probably wouldn't be upgrading myself until around the fall after I wrapped up some big projects i have sitting in final cut studio. October works well actually since that will probably be followed in january with new hardware at macworld which will have the new os installed, saving people 130.00 if they plan to upgrade machines. joebabyny
Not me. The only thing Mac I own is my iPod. I just wonder if Microsoft will take the offensive with the Apple OS being delayed. Take the offensive? You mean take a swipe at apple in some ads? I doubt that for a few reasons. One is MS would just like people to not even know apple exists in the computer market so why talk about them. The other is it would be foolish for them to take a swipe when apple says that the release will be done by june but they want more time to QC it when their own vista was like 4 years behind schedule and still is a bloated turd. Third, Windows does not have the greatest rep for reliability and knocking another company that comes out and says they want their software to be up to their standards for compatability and reliability would just make any mac user laugh. But the biggest reason though, is that MS will NEVER convince a mac user to switch, just won't happen, and there are extremely few windows users who really feel as passionately about windows as 95% of mac users feel about their computer. Ford sold TONS more Taurus's then mercedes sold SL roadsters, but no Taurus owners feel their passion for Ford the way SL owners do for their Mercedes. Besides, this delay is not much of a delay, the OS is still expected to be ready for that june developers conference where it was supposed to be unveiled, they will be giving a copy to every developer to take home with the feature sets, so this is all pretty much a non event. Not sure how a 5 year delay of a downgraded OS that is only on par with an OS released two years ago is really going to help MSFT go on the offensive. ECURB
Last time I used a MAC was in school... I have never owned one... I dont mind MACs but I prefer PC's... As for the Ipod... I think they are the biggest scam going... so many people get suckered into it thinking that an Ipod is the only way to play music... I have actually heard people argue that the Ipod is the ONLY mp3 player and all others are just knock offs... crazy stuff... I have a SanDisk MP3 player I got for 50 bucks... hold every bit of music I need it too and its freakin tiny... not like the 8 pound paperweight of an Ipod... I must say though... for video editing... although I have done some work on my PC... I do miss the MAC's at school for video use. Like Max said too... Mac users better hope they dont get more popular... the Viruses will come pouring in...

BZ Mac needs to convince more schools to use it in general computer classes... every school I went to had PC's for most applications and MACs just for the Audio/Video editing... so the masses all learned on PC's..... and usually will go out and buy what they are good at already rather than learn a new system. Well yeah, obviously as market share grows there will be that possibility, but most people don't know, os X is built on bsd unix, which has been around a while and is pretty secure. As anyone who runs a server knows, you do NOT want a windows server box, unix is much better. Any osX computer can actually pretty much run as a webserver right out of the box as far as software is concerned, they have a unix command line and come with apache installed. I got a MacBook Pro (17" with 2G RAM) in January and it is just an awesome piece of equipment. The best thing about it - Parallels. I run MacOS for most of the trivial stuff, Fedora Core in a VM for more "work-like" things, and Vista/XP for testing only. MacOS on it's own is good enough for most of it, but a solid VM offering like Parallels puts it over the top. I'm a converted full time Linux user, by the way - an oddity, it seems (although my machine at home is a Fedora box).

That is with around 12 million hits for the month and around 9,000 uniques daily. Most months Mac comes in around 1.2 - 1.5%. I am not in love with Windows. I think it is a POS. I just laugh at the border war\loyalty stuff. Let's get the mainstream on Mac and you will have the same problems that Windows has for the most part. The IPod is great for them. Yeah, i just don't really care what other people use, they work great for me and I would never switch to windows, for my businesses they are great. People can argue all they want, but at the end of the day I know I have used both systems and I know what works for me. I think most mac users end up falling into arguments when pc users or tech writers who are misinformed spout off things that are not factual about the mac. But in the end, who really cares, there are definitely enough people who get what I get so apple is not going anywhere, and I am happy to not be the OS that gets picked on by every 2-bit hack programmer who wants to infect every computer in the world with his bull@@@@ virus.
