Joe Boningo on WFAN Mornings?

I've always been a big fan of Boningo's since he did the overnights on WFAN and I would love to see him get Imus's morning slot. Boningo is a fan favorite on the statio and he would probably double Imus's ratings in New York plus it would give people like me who haven't had anything to listen to in the mornings since Stern was forced out of terrestrial radio something nice to listen to for a change during the drive to work.

Looking at Imus's numbers over the past 10 years it's amazing the guy stayed on the air as long as he did. Imus was on almost all the major markets and yet he only pulled in 1.6 milion listeners. To give an idea of how poor that rating is compare to Howard Stern who had 8.6 million listeners on about half as many stations as Imus had. Rush Limbaugh has 13.5 million listeners. Yet Imus is somehow always mentioned in the same breath as superstars like Stern and Limbaugh. Guess it was the good ole boys network. This is not a political comment, just a comment on how bad Imus's ratings were before he got canned.

WFAN has a chance now to revitalize their station. Leave Mike and the puppy on in the afternoons and give Joe the morning slot.

what you are missing is that Imus's per capita demographics per average listener was highest in Industry. Much higher then Sterns or Limbaughs. So less viewers doesnt really matter if the average listener spent more per capita on goods. The station can charge more for his show than for a show with more listeners if the listeners have more disposable income to spend. A example of this is when Seinfeld was at its peak,, it was almost always second in ratings to Home Improvement. But Seinfeld was able to charge much more per 30 second commercial because thier viewers had a much higher average income than HI's.

Benigno will not able to attract any other stations outside of NY/NJ area.

CBS just lost a bunch of coin.

CBS is not going to be able to replace him.

You are talking about a guy who simulcast in something like 70 markets. Unless they get a national guy (Limbaugh) or maybe and Olbermann (Which would make more sense since he is already on MSNBC then CBS is going to have alot of problems.

It wouldn't surprise me though if Imus after say 3 months or so comes back and works maybe just on the WFAN and try to rebuild his career.

agree on all points,,

a person who could actually garner the same per capita demographics would be Bill Maher

Problem is Maher is a liberal and Imus is, for the most part, a conservative even though he won't come out and say it. They're both political humorists but I don't think they would attract the same audiences.

The fact that Imus only attracted a fraction of the listeners Stern had(on half the markets) and Limbaugh is not counterbalanced by the fact that his listeners were affluent, educated middle-aged men. Stern reached the same demographic for the most part and Limbaugh's audience is also for the most part upper middle class to rich.

My original point was that Boningo would get better ratings in Imus's slot in New York. New Yorkers right now don't have a morning show about the local teams (Mike and Mike are nationally syndicated).
