Smizzy
Caitlin Hammaren was a 19 yr old VT student who was killed yesterday but she was also from my town. She graduated the local high school here and I felt obligated to acknowledge her. I did not know her but Id just like to say My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and ALL the families of the victims of yesterdays senseless act. Unreal. My heart goes out to them all. Jetheelz
There are alot of stories coming out about the victims of what happened on Monday. One that I was intrigued with was Liviu Librescu, the 76 year old engineering and mechanics professor. He was one of the brave souls who blocked the shooter's path so students could jump out windows to safety. He was also a Holocaust survivor. I bet that guy had alot of stories to tell. Boozer76
I am amazed and proud of the way those students reacted in the face of horror. So many of them performed heroic acts in unimaginable circumstances. I am also amazed and proud of the resolve of the students who overwhelmingly declare that they will not leave the school or run and hide. In moments where I constantly see horrible things that kids like Cho Seung-Hui and Dylan Kliebold and the likes do and I wonder to myself "what the hell is going wrong with kids today", I am immediately comforted by the acts of the mojority who react to these situations with bravery and a resolve to not only save themselves but also those around them. This incredibly deranged person went out with the hope of terrorizing the students of Virginia Tech and the nation as a whole. What makes me happy is the fact that he failed, miserably. What I see is a bunch of kids who are strong and will use this event to make them stronger, better human beings. For every deranged lunatic like Cho there are thousands of young adults who react as leaders and heroes, and they are the ones who will keep this country strong and great for years to come. My heart and prayers go out to the families of those who died as well as all of the students who endured this horrible tragedy.
Thor99
Why couldn't that jackass just kill himself first? Leave all of the innocents out of it. My thoughts are with all of the victims and thier families.

I truely wish the media would stop spending so much time on Cho and more time on the heroes from this tragic event.
Kidhuman
Happening to live in Blacksburg, I am truly proud of the way the community and its surroundings have banded together in the face of tragedy. People have come together not only across this area but across the US and the world to show their sympathies to this mess. It is not only Blacksburg that was hit by this awful mess, but Smizzy's hometown, Boston, New Jersey, New York and many other towns across the globe. Kids came to this school for learning, to get a better education and advance in life. It is a shame that they had to meet their end by some maniac who thinks he is a Martyr. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the fallen. May they Rest In Peace.

The media is a business and that business is to make money. That's just the reality of it.

I don't understand the media. Here is the story of a hero who gave something back to this country.I'm sure other victims had great stories of their hopes and dreams that have been endeed. Broadcasting the killer's sick tape before they tell us about these people he snuffed out is wrong. Theya ren't even ruied yet. NBC sucks.

I cannot believe (Well it is the media so yeah I can) that NBC would broadcast that. Sadly though negativity sells. It creates controversy, discussion, debate. The good stories, the one's of herorism and survival are relegated to the back pages or shows like 48 hours. Great story in the Daily News today that sums up the media perfectly. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2007/04/19/2007-04-19_nbc_delivers_final_sick_message.html NBC delivers final sick message ------------------------------------------------------------------------- By DAVID BIANCULLI and RICHARD HUFF DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Thursday, April 19th 2007, 4:00 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- NBC news received a 'profane' and 'downright gross' package from Cho Seung-hui, Brian Williams said last night on the 'Nightly News.' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The crazed killer who shot dead 32 people turned to television - NBC, to be exact - to get his final message across. Yesterday, the network received a "profane" and "downright gross" package from Cho Seung-hui, Brian Williams said last night on NBC's "Nightly News." Never before has a newscast been so creepy, yet at the same time one from which it was impossible to turn away. In a week in which details of this story have trickled out and been uncovered slowly, NBC hit the mother lode with the killer's sick, sad gift package. NBC had the news, and in turn was becoming the news because of the mailing. "I didn't have to do this, I could have left, I could have fled," Cho said in a video mailed to NBC's Rockefeller Center headquarters in what would be his final hours of life. But he did. In this world of hundreds of cable channels and the Internet, Cho chose the network most associated these days with the game show "Deal or No Deal" and "ER." No one knows why he chose NBC. "We know we are airing the words of a murderer tonight," Williams said, before getting into the core of the killer's package. It was, by far, some of the most powerful video to emerge from the nation's largest gun murder. For some, it'll come as a kick to the gut. In one scene in the video he sent NBC, Cho looks like a regular guy, a typical college student. In another, he looks a lot like a low-level actor playing a thug, trying to put on a tough voice. The brief clips, along with a chilling still image of Cho clutching two handguns, and a loaded hunting vest, provided a stunning snapshot into what happened. "There were 27 video clips, 43 stills in 23 pages of written statements, and one audio clip," correspondent Pete Williams said on NBC last night. There was no denying either the power or the newsworthiness of the images and words, yet Williams said NBC was "sensitive" to how these words and images would be received by those close to the tragedy, and that they were, indeed, the words of a killer. "This is his ultimate victory, this is the way he's further victimizing us," said serial-killer expert Clint Van Zandt on NBC, about the gripping package. Van Zandt, a former FBI agent, was right. "This is what this guy wants," Van Zandt told Tucker Carlson on MSNBC earlier. "To reach his hand out of the grave, grab us by the throat and make us listen to him one more time." No matter how compelling, how interesting, how chilling the package from Cho appears to people who have been watching this story unfold all week, it will no doubt resonate deepest with the families of the victims who, sadly, are still trying to piece together what happened to their loved ones that horrible day at Virginia Tech.
