Report: Blue Angels Plane Crashes In S.C.

No Word On Pilot's Condition

There are reports that a Blue Angels precision flight team member has crashed a plane during a show in South Carolina.

Local TV station WSAV reported that at least one plane crashed into a Beaufort, S.C., neighborhood. Several homes were reported to be on fire, according to the station. But there were conflicting reports. A State Trooper told CNN that the crash site was not around any house.

There was no information about the pilot's condition.

A man who said he was a witness told CNN that he was watching the show and there were six planes, then one vanished before he saw a black plume of smoke. He said he had watched the show for about 30 minutes before the crash.

Another witness, Gerald Popp, said he also saw a plane go down. He said there were thousands of people in attendance at the show.

There was one Marine pilot flying in the team of six F/A-18 Hornets performing this weekend at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort Air Show, according to the Beaufort Gazette. Beaufort is a military town. The air show began Saturday at 11:45 a.m.

The Navy's Blue Angels were scheduled to fly in 66 air shows in 2007, according to CNN.

The local paper and the coroner's office have confirmed the pilot's dead.

This is so horrible. I refuse to go to air shows... they just seem so dangerous and I don't want to witness anything like this ever.

I've seen the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds off Coney ISland plenty of times around July 4th. But the sky is usually pretty clear and they're over water the whole time.

Otherwise Air shows scare the crap out of me too.

i was at this thing called riverfest in my home town, and we were watching some parachuters do a little jig or what have you. and there is an object that fell out of a plane, no one thought much of it cause it didn't look that big. next day we read it was a guy who's parachute didn't open, he put a whole in the middle of a movie theatre (it was closed at the time, so he didn't land in an actual theatre of people). I feel bad for him and his family, but i won't lose sleep over it, its his profession.

just cause he's american i don't feel obligated to feel for him. how many Ausies, english, italians, or iraqies die every day that i don't even catch wind of? Even if i did catch wind of it, i still don't care.

Christ dude. Just because the person is in a job that with it brings more danger doesn't mean their life is any cheaper than anyone elses. I'm not saying we have to go into a state or mourning, but their deaths are still tragic. Specially when you consider how many $-Heads stay alive every day when they should be long dead.

Dude no one said you have to stop what you're doing for them. I agree with you in that sense, no one cares about a death unless it makes the news. All we're saying is that it sucks someone died. Just like yesterday when some single mom already a widow lost her life in a car crash, leaving her kid with no one. I don't know her, but it still sucks to hear.

Okay, i'll give you that, when something ****ty happens to someone, like the mom you just mentioned, that would have a better chance of disrupting my day. I guess i'm getting tired of hearing of celebs dying for drug overdoses (i know the blue angel wasn't a celeb, i'm just sayin). There is no way that model chick (just died, i cna't remember her name) should get any press. What has she done that is so great? that's the type of sh!t that pisses me off.

Imagine if Paris Hilton died tomorrow. She'd have a bigger and more drawn out funeral than my mother would. and i know my mom has given way more back to this world than a stuck up brat from the west coast.
