Who is excited about Couture /Gonzaga?

Answer: Nobody

Credit is due though. That kid TOOK IT to Cro Cop. Un F'n believable! I thought it was complete bullsh*t that Herb Dean stood them up when it was CLEAR that Gonzaga was owning Mirko on the ground. I guess he was trying to attempt to save a Couture/Cro Cop fight.

Good for that kid to end it on his terms. I think Cro Cop is the man but I thought it pretty fitting that Gonzaga ended it like that. I mean Cro Cop couldn't have done it any better.

BTW If you don't like UFC/Pride/MMA, don't bother responding. No one cares about your gay opinion.

HAHA! LMFAO at the last sentence :rl:

I used to be really into MMA..but I don't keep up with it anymore..I watched the first one in '93 on PPV and it was blood and teeth everywhere.Couture is an old man, isn't he? I thought the iceman knocked him out in their last fight? and with pride joining in I don't even know the fighters anymore.

Thanks for the update anyway!

Dude was out cold for at least 10 minutes, you gotta realize cro cop (the dude who got knocked out) was a heavy favorite and was expected to destroy gonzaga.

He's lucky he didn't connect with those howitzers while he was already out cold..I was talking about the way his ankle and knee were bent like a pretzel when he went down,he had to have ****ed his leg up going down.

Yeah I noticed that too, I'd be surprised if he didn't break, tear or twist something. When I was watching it last night there was a good 2 minutes when I thought cro cop was dead.

I guess he thought he was going for the body with that kick. He didn't think Gonzaga could do the head kick.

Exactly right.

Here's the entire fight if you're interested.

And to show you how deadly Cro Cop is, here he is beating the hell out of Wanderlei Silva (considered by many the 2nd best MMA fighter in the world before the fight).

And here's a Cro Cop Knockout video (put to some cheesy *ss music)

so this is that fellow croatian dude who is supposed to be good? I didnt realize he was such a star....too bad he lost. the serbs are probably partying right now

jetlag, drop me a line when he fights again i am curious:)

Cro Cop is the man. Cro Cop is actually just his nickname. His real name is Mirko Filipovic. He was actually some sort of special forces cop in Croatia, hence "Cro Cop". In fact I've heard he's become some sort of member of their parliament since then. How would you like to be the guy who gets arrested by him or have to debate him on something.

His famous line is "My right leg will send you to the hospital. My left..the cemetery."

Great fighter and one of my personal favorites, I have no idea what happened. If I had to guess, he completely underestimated Gonzaga and didn't train enough on his ground game.

WTF is the deal with Silva anyway? That guy needs to quit fighting heavyweights. How many times does he have to get his a$$ beat before he comes back to earth. The first time he fought Cro Cop he probably should have lost but they declared it a draw. I would have thought that would have been enough for him to realize he shouldn't fight him again.

cro cop is done. he is late 30's and would have retired last year of he didn't win in pride. they hyped him up so much - but age is the only undefeated opponent, regardless of sport.

i'd like to see fedor come over from pride, that dude would dominate the heavyweight division.

I too thought cropcop was dead on the mat or seriously injured. & i'm not talking about the twisted leg part which was testament to how hard he was kicked. that was a serious blow to the temple. it really looked like his foot flushed him hard in the only soft spot on the cranium.

well that good news, I googled cro cop & all I got was a bunch of donut shop sites.

I didn't find any medical updates on him just how everyones bummed gonzaga won cause the hype of the fight won't be nearly as big a draw.

anyone watch the show featuring dana white from when he purchased up til he was gonna fight jenna's boyfriend?

Cro Cop interview after UFC 70:

translated from a croation newspaper:

Although the KO he suffered looked deadly, Mirko's head doesn't hurt him. But, he is having problems with a swollen right ankle. "I won't be doing anything for 2 weeks, won't even drink vitamins and proteins. I have to clean up my organism. Full of spite, I wanted to train the same evening I got back to Croatia, but I know it would be contraproductive", Mirko says.

He is feeling guilty for letting down his fans, especially those who came to Manchester to support him. And he doesn't care about those who took pleasure in his calvary. "I don't have to justify myself to anyone. Besides being an amateur boxer for 2 years, thus being paid trips to a few tournaments, the country's sport system didn't invest in me. I am my own investment."He doesn't have an excuse for his bad performance. He can't even explain what happened to him. Although, he can manage to describe the state he was in.

"I don't have an alibi. It happens in cycles to me. It looks like I blew myself out after winning the Pride OWGP belt.

I wasn't happy even with my first UFC performance. This time I also didn't decide to engage an exchange of punches. I didn't have warrior spirit in me. I was lost." He adds that besides no initiative, he also didn't have a strategy. "All of that didn't have anything to do with the quality of my preparations and the shape I was in, but it had to do with my focus on the fight and my opponent. Before the fight I was nervous, I was thinking about all sorts of stupid things, I was just in a bad state. Unfortunately, I seem to be that type. I need a rough wake-up call in order to focus again."

He says he didn't even see the high-kick:

"After 3 or 4 elbows to the temple, I had blurry vision when I stood up."

Mirko is announcing changes in his training session. He is going to introduce elbows and elbow defence, which wasn't present in Pride. "I'm not used to elbows, but that's my problem. I'm also goint to do exercises for my injured ankles."

Croatian fighter Mirko Cro Cop is healing consequences of a hard defeat to Gabriel Gonzaga in the UFC 70 tournament in Manchester, Great Britain. Shocking pictures of unconscious Cro Cop lying in the cage looked unreal since we were used to see exactly the opposite ones for years.

Mirko had similar experiences with Kevin Randleman in Pride and Michael McDonald in K-1. He lost by KO to both of them [that's not true, although it says so in the article], and both times he succeeded to comeback to the top. Although his charisma got seriously hurt, if not destroyed, Mirko claims he has the motivation and strength for a new comeback.

Q: Do you feel any health consequences from Manchester episode?

A: I don't have headaches, nor any visible consequences from Gonzaga's high-kick. If it weren't for the pain in the right ankle, I'd already be training. However, I have to passively rest for two weeks. The ankle is swollen, but I don't think anything is broken, otherwise I wouldn't be able to walk. Still, I'll go to see a doctor one of these days and have it scanned."

Q: You seemed absent in the cage?

A: I wasn't myself against Gonzaga. I just couldn't decide to begin an exchange of punches, to go forward. Something similar happened to me in my last fight vs. Sanchez, but I still won that fight. These things happen to me in cycles. First I learn a lesson in the ring, then I go wild and win in streaks. However, there are no alibies for this defeat, and I am not looking for any.

Q: What determined the outcome?

A: Gonzaga's elbows to my temple. When I got up, my vision was blurry and I didn't even see that right high-kick.

Q: Did you make any mistakes in the preparation for the fight?

A: The preparations were great and are not the problem. Right before the fight I was apathetic, no good, couldn't focus and I fought without any strategy.

Q: What will your future in the UFC look like?

A: I will definitely come back stronger. It's out of place to talk about the belt, but I will respect the contract. Of course, provided there are no new injuries. However, I don't know what could make me fight more after I work off the remaining 4 fights.

Q: When can we expect you back in the ring?

A: I believe I'll fight again in the UFC at the end of August or beginning of September. I expect to get a chance to rematch Gonzaga. Thanks to everyone who came to Manchester for me, and all who called me wishing me good luck. I got more than 200 calls and I couldn't answer everyone.

Oh and he's not washed up. He's only 32. Every fighter gets caught every now and then. It happens. Fedor is with the UFC,since they bought out Pride. However, they are having issues with his contract since his pride contract allows him to fight in other events, but UFC contracts do not allow that and Dana is fighting that.

Thank you for setting Fo_Block straight on that. He's 11 years younger than the guy who currently owns the belt. Cro Cop ain't done by a long shot, age wise. I didn't like his comment about not fighting after the next 4.

It seems like he just doesn't want to fight anymore, they were talking about how he wanted to rejoin the Croatian special police or something. Maybe he just doesn't have it mentally anymore.
