I'm doing a semester long study on the economy of Detroit, and I'm currently looking at the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of the Ford Field/Comerica projects in stimulating economic growth... so...

Do you have any idea, A) how much public money was spent on these stadiums, and B) where I might find information on the impact of the stadiums?

Despite how bad the Lions are, there's still a waiting list for season tickets..so I guess they're doing as much as they can in terms of drawing fans.

But I don't know how much 1 team can do to lift an economy the size of detroit's. In Detroit, your employer does one of these things:

  • makes cars
  • makes widgets that get shipped to the car companies
  • sells hamburgers to the people who make cars

So the city's pretty much hosed like the Auto industry is.

If your report is to highlight SPORTS and it's economic effect, you might focus on the Emotional lift it gives the citizens in a struggling economy. With nearly 1 million people eeking out a living, the stadiums are always full, and Detroit sports have ticket prices as high as most anywhere else.

It's too bad your study isn't about Donuts. GOB could definitely help you out with that.
