A couple of questions on David Harris

First all, it is UM, University of Michigan.

I give him a soft 5. Despite of apparently having speed, his range is very limited. Most force was coming from DL.

Harris' positives will benefit Jets' woeful 3-4 defense. Limited range wont be an issue for that scheme and his strength is run stopping which that means he is able to find a hole and plug himself in that hole at the line.

Problem with Jets is Vilma because he cant handle any blocker so OL will take on stronger ILB like Barton or Harris. The solution is Vilma MUST FIND a play otherwise Barton and Harris will wear out quick.

Who knows it will be Barton and Harris inside in long term. UMM..

On a scale of 1-10,10 being the best, how would you guys that actually saw him play at MU rank him? Also who would compare his playing style to in the current or even past NFL linebackers?

he has good speed, great incstincts, great motor. great size, average athletism, more of a teddy bruschi type run stuffer who is actually not bad in coverage, he has a big frame so he can block QB view

That's a shame I was hoping some real hardcore Michigan fans would come out and give some insight.

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/ilb/davidharris.html eric barton is not a longterm solution though, can people just let next year play out, the jets are not just going to dump off their best player because of one year in a new scheme. after everything that mangini and tannenbaum have done already in their first year, you think you all would be happy and content with trusting them. believe it or not, none of us here could ever hold mangini and tannenbaum's jockstrap with the work they have done.

Things to keep in mind about Harris:

possible negatives:

1. He may be one of the best LBs in this years draft class, but this wasnt a particularly good year for LBs. If he were in last years draft I dont think he would have had a first round grade or even a high second.

2. According to NFL.com he's right at his maximum weight at mid 240. This is big enough to play the weak side ILB, but I'm not sure he can be the Strong side ILB. Vilma who is considerably lighter struggled at the strong side ILB spot getting off blocks etc and as a result Barton was more of the playmaker. The strong side guy has to attack the line giving the weak side ILB the opportunity to flow more freely to the play. Harris may be big enough to do this, but he's at the bottom end in terms of weight for that job.

3. He's not a particularly good blitzer.

possible positives:

1. He's tough, smart, hardworking and dedicated.

2. He's probably faster than most ILBs and should be decent in coverage.

3. He is a proven run stopper.

4. His height gives him the flexibility of playing the WOLB spot (Hobson last year) eventhough he's a little lighter than most (Hobson 250 is as well). This versatility makes him valuable to the team if the Jets decide not to extend Hobson or decide to trade Vilma after this season.

Somthing to think about:

Dont assume he's Barton's replacement. He could be Vilma's or even Hobson's. This is exactly the kind of thing that Mangini values in a player.

It wouldn't be a suprise for people to say he might end up being the best LB in this years draft.
