Anyone take a look at the players that were the key figures in the steroid contrversy this spring?

Palmiero - .252 4 HRs 15 RBI

Sosa - .269 4 Hrs 13 RBI on DL with foot injury

Pudge - .262 3 HRs 19 RBI

Bonds - DNP

Giambi - .225 4 HRs 12 RBI

Sheffield - .318 6 HRs 29 RBI

It looks more and more like Canseco was telling the truth and some of these guys were lying.

I guess Sheff did just use the cream and then stop.

Pudge might want to find that 20 lbs he lost in the offseason.

Here's hoping Bonds never plays again. The whole infection/IV gives him the perfect excuse for dropping 25 lbs or so. If he's out long enough and the Balco trial starts in Sept, he may never pass Ruth.

Pudge was hitting fine, he went into a slump. He's just now coming out of it. He was hitting .380, then May hit and he went on a long drought.

Haven't seen him play this year. How has his defense been? That guy is an amazing catcher.

I just love the partial pass Sheffield gets because the Yankee fan needs Sheffield to get to the WS.

He's doing fine, defensively. Honestly, it's just a slump, from which he just came out of. Through April, he was on fire. The end of April and til about a week ago, he just went into a slump. He was on an Oh'fer streak too (y'know 0-some off AB's).

And remember, he's 34 years old. Catchers are supposed to break down in their mid thirties. Kinda like running backs.

Not making excuses for any of them but...

Ages:

Palmeiro: 40

Sosa: 36

Bonds: 40

Pudge: 34

Giambi: 34

Sheffield: 36

Aside from Bonds and Giambi, where its pretty much obvious through testimonies that they took them, it could be that age is just catching up to these guys. Hell, Palmeiro's been in the league for 20 friggin years. He is bound to slow up one of these days.

Mavrik:

The age thing is a good point. But look at Giambi. A 34 year old guy who doesn't run much and plays 1B should have very low mileage.

So outside of roids, he definitely should not be breaking down. Guys like Bonds and Rafael were due because of their age like you said.

i think canseco also mentioned a handfull of others in the book. the notables including tejada - who is tearing the league up right now and one of the best offensive players in the game.

i read the book and thought it was pretty good, other than the overwhelming 'everyone is out to get me' sentiment. really put the whole steroid thing into perspective. in reality i believe much of what jose wrote, including the #fo players who juiced.

how about palmiero, the guy is the poster boy for viagra - a common symptom of coming off steroids.
