madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 Don't be so pissed. You got more in this trade than the yankees got for Randy Johnson lol... Though they probably would've been better off just taking the draft picks...
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 So you were expecting to get something of value for a run of the mill catcher who has shown a history of being a problem in the clubhouse? Hmm.. How the hell is he run of the mill? Typical uninformed information from you.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 You're right. You cannot find a catcher with a .256 AVG, a .307 OBP, a .734 OPS, and 9 HRs anywhere. Or one who has never hit over 20 HRs in his career. Or one who has made 5 errors this year with 8 passed balls and a whopping 17 % of runners out this season. Those are really diamonds in the rough. Needle in a haystack. He's been one of the best catchers in the NL the last 3 years.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 As usual Cashman dropps the ball by not go ing after barrett. The yankees could've given the cubs more than they got... thats for sure.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 What planet are you on? If anything the Yankees could use a bit of an upgrade at backup catcher, and Barrett is not a backup. Getting Barrett would've let Posada play 1st 3-4 days a week and got his bat in the lineup every game.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 Like I said, Barrett is a starting catcher not a backup. This isn't MLB 2K7 mikey. This was the player who was on the trade block for less than he was worth and didn't have a no trade clause. GOD FORBID cashman use that situation to improve the team lol. madmike1 109,248 Posted June 20, 2007 OWNED. Not that InsaneMike has enough grip on reality to understand it. BArrett will be the best catcher traded BY FAR this season and he was traded for next to nothing.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 21, 2007 He's good and should have garnered more in return. I think the recent arguments with some of the staff sealed his fate and GM's new the price tag was at it's lowest. Top 5 offensively is a bit of a stretch. Victor Martinez, Posada, Mauer, Russell Martin, McCann, Bengie Molina, Johjima, Varitek, Ramon Hernandez, Pudge are all probably better. Barret is about on a Pierzynsky level. He's a better hitter than Molina Varitek, Hernandez and Pudge at this point..
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 21, 2007 Just not statistically. Yes. Statistically. The fact that he's been a slump doesn't change that.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 21, 2007 Which of those players does he have better stats than other than Hernandez who was injured? Pudge 7Hr-39 RBI's-.292 avg. Molina 6-34 - .294 Varitek 7-31 - .265 Barrett 9-29 - .255 Barrett has had a mid 800's OPS the last 3 years and thats what he'll probably end up with. None of those other players will do that. Also trying to use HR, AVG and RBI's to try to find the better player will give you useless information.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 21, 2007 If you want to go by hundred year old baseball knowledge thats fine but it's not gonna tell you much about how well those players are playing.
madmike1 109,248 Posted June 21, 2007 Barrett's last 3 seasons were all very good. Something you keep ignoring.
