Meddle
This is my post-draft article for FFM. Something to fill the empty down time of a long off-season. Enjoy. Of course, you should all feel free to complain if you think it sucks... ----------------------------------------------------- Do Jet fans ever get a normal draft? Of course not! From drafting Lam Jones instead of Anthony Munoz to passing on Dan Marino for Ken O

Maxman
Good recap Meddle. I am still real curious to see how the two safeties pan out. Man if one of them at least can have a standout camp, that would be huge!
faba
Thanks Meddle for the article- With any draft it has to be evaluated three years or so down the road to see how well Bradway did with his selections. My own view is he did a good job- Miller in the second round and Houston in the 6th round especially. I honestly expect Nugent to stuggle a little- only natural in adjustment to the pros but he has all the ability to do well

I think he'll be fine as long as he doesn't miss a big one early on. I just hope he has a chance to establish himself. He seems like the real deal, but kickers are sort of like closers and in NYC... Hopefully he gets off well.
Meddle
Good recap Meddle. I am still real curious to see how the two safeties pan out. Man if one of them at least can have a standout camp, that would be huge! Max, love the JN logo in your sig! Nice. I also am excited about the new safeties, especially Rhodes who could be a great fit with Coleman at some point. With Coleman, Muggsy and Rhodes we may have a nice trio at safety for some time. Not to rule out guys like Washington, Pagel and Maddox, who all possess different skills. We now have enough young talent for DH and Corwin to mold. Great competition, which I love, but the downside is that we'll have to let one or two of them go. That
Big Dave
As an opposing fan, I think the Jets weaknesses have been at the top. When Parcells was here, sound decisions were made there and the team was very successful and left in good shape to build upon as every Parcells team is. I think Herm Edwards is a good coach and a good motivator. I also think he's gets the most out of his players and am surprised with the success he's had in rebuilding his defense. I do not think he's a very good talent evaluator, so, he needs GM help big time. I didn't think Bradway was doing the job, but he's starting to put together a young team with good potential. Maybe he's the guy after all. Good move replacing your idiot offensive coordinator. Hackett reminded me of Wannstedt in that he made players play in his system rather than adjusting the system around the talent of your players. SoFlaJets
I want to see all these draftees on the team in September-the 2 safeties might come at the cost of Pagel and McGraw(if he continues to stay hurt)and that'll be just fine with me.Neither one turned out to be John Lynches like some had hoped and predicted
Meddle
Personally, I like McGraw a lot. He may not ever stay healthy, but he's done some good work. His play against Antonio Gates was key in both games. Just look what that guy did to almost every other team he played against. So at the very least, I like him as a specialist. I also like the way he toughed out his injury last year and got it fixed at year's end. He's not lacking guts.

Is disagree with two things about your Parcells thoughts. His decisions weren't always sound...no backup QB in 1999 cost the team the season. Also some of his Free Agent signings were terrible (Eric Green). That being said Parcells left the franchise in much better shape then he got it in. They had cap issues but some talent. He received a team with no talent at all. Amen about Hackett. Time for him to go. Good comparison to Wanny though. Both are good football minds (Wanny more so) but are limited when it comes to the bigger picture.

He left us in a cap mess and we only made the playoffs once in his four years in charge, which includes the Al Groan year.

I agree with The Maxman Parcells was a failure he did NOT get us to where he had gotten his previous teams and failed to make contingincy plans and put all his eggs in one Vinny basket which killed us.I like that we have Feidler and Eakins who I believe will unseat the dirt passer named Brooks
Savage69
Max was right about Tuna not having a good backup for Vinny in 99..He also signed some bad FA's..Funny Max never finds fault with Hermie though The Cap issue's from what I read were partly due to trying to get Hess a winner while he was still around to enjoy it! When Chad went down Hermie had a QB that had already taken the Team to the Playoffs but gave him no work at all in the preseason which was critical since Chad had taken over in week 4 of 02! Parcells also left Hermie 4 number 1 Draft picks 3 of which turned out well!! Since the Tuna turned the Team around in 97 the Jets have had 1 losing Season and it wasn't the Tuna or Groh!! BlackLabelJetsFan
Good article. I'd tend to agree with Big Dave - Im not sold on Herm as talent evaluator. I think Bradway has improved tremendously in that area though and needs to maintain that. I think Herm's strengths are as a leader and motivator, and he now has two strong coordinators beneath him. Like any good manager, if Herm can delegate to folks he can count on, I think he will be successful.

I like the Jets' chances if Chad can get his shoulder back to a reasonable level and if Adrian Jones can handle the starting job. One thing is for sure, we will not be scrating our heads on 3rd and long anymore. Look for more pass attempts to actually be on the first down side of the sticks. PatsFanTX
I think he'll be fine as long as he doesn't miss a big one early on. Chiefs ahead 28-27 in the opener with .03 seconds left. Jets have the ball on the 36 yard line of KC. Nugent comes in to hit the 43-yard gimme FG (because if he is as great as Jet fans say, it's a gimme) to win the game. Under pressure he over-kicks and hooks the ball wide left. As usual, Jets lose. Nugent will be extremely lucky to convert 70% of his FG attempts next year. And you guys wasted a 2nd round pick on a kicker after the one you had last year hit on 83% of his attempts.

I was with you until you ref'd Brien's %... As a Pat fan, you should KNOW - that a kicker's % is far less important than how he kicks in crunch-time. AV has had off years, but was always there when it counted. That's my kind of kicker. I do hope NUG's get out of the box well, but as long as he avoids a pattern of missing big kicks, I think he'll be ok. One plus is that he'll have a full year (at minimum) under his belt before he can lose a plyoff game for us.

You make a very good point about Nugent getting off to a good start. A few early misses (especially if it costs the Jets a game or two) and that will start to mess with his head. I still think Nugent will be lucky to convert 70% of his kicks. Three reason for that: 1). Jets will now start attempting FG's in the 48 to 55-yard range. Last year, they didn't do that. 2). I don't care how good he performed in college, he will be a rookie kicker in the NFL. The pressure will be that much more instense. 3). Kicking in Giants Stadium. Probably no tougher a place to kick in the entire NFL due to the swirling winds, especially in December.
