madmike1 Posted July 16, 2007 Share Posted July 16, 2007 To be fair, Torre totally misused Lofton. I didnt understand it at the time and I dont understand it now. Torre definitely didnt like Lofton, that is for sure. Its the only reason why he didnt start every day in CF like he should have. Lofton was only on the team because George was infatuated by Juan Pierre from the 03 series and wanted to get a player like that to leadoff but Torre played Bernie more because he was a better player so Lofton had a hissy fat. Woudln't it have been beneficial for Jeter to back Torre up? I guess if i were torre i'd like to have my team captain step up for me. Had torre responded it wouldn't have nearly as much impact.
