Green Jets & Ham
Just caught this tidbit in the Sunday NY Post As anyone who has seen Pride of the Yankees already knows, Lou Gehrig once hit 4 HR's in a Game as depicted in the film .. but that's not even the incredible part .. while hitting 4 HR's in a Single Game is certainly an amazing accomplishment in its own right, and a very rare feat to boot, it was done before Gehrig and it has since been repeated But can you even imagine someone hitting 4 HR's in a Single Game, and one of his teammates hitting for the cycle in the Same Game? Well that's what the film DOES NOT depict, but it did indeed happen that day Seems on the same day Lou Gehrig was blasting 4 HR's for the Yankees, MR. TONY LAZZERI was having quite a day of his own Lazzeri went 5 for 6 that day with five consecutive hits following his first AB ... his hits registering in the following order SINGLE DOUBLE TRIPLE SINGLE HOMERUN {Grand Slam} Has there ever, in the history of baseball, been a more amazing DUAL ACCOMPLISHMENT by two teammates in the Same Game? I would have to term that a rethorical question because I believe the answer is fairly obvious
GimmeShelter
Right up there with allowing 27 hits and 17 runs.
Maxman
Good thread Ham. Tony Lazzeri is one of the more under rated players of all time. He is in the Hall Of Fame but it took forever to get him in there. Nobody really knows much about him. But he once hit 50 home runs in a minor league season. By the time he made the majors he held the career record for most minor league home runs. (He also once hit two grand slams in the same game). Talk about a hot prospect. The media would be drooling over someone if they did that today.
PFSIKH
Right up there with allowing 27 hits and 17 runs. Damm you Gimmie...I was going to use the two teammates with 5 RBIs angle. Max.....dude was in the majors by the age of 22. When did he start playing? At the age of 10? Maxman
he hit .309 in his second year for the Murderer's Row I read that he hit over .300 6 or 7 times. I have to pull up his stats though. Curious how many career home runs he hit. I think he hit in the 20's for the 27 Yankee team.

Blackout
http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/lazzeto01.shtml my favorite place for stats i used to use the ESPN CLassic one, but it didnt give black ink, grey ink, SL %, OPS or any of that so it became useless to me plus baseball-reference gives playoff stats
PFSIKH
There is another one that is just interesting to look at it. It has not been updated for 2004 yet. The nice thing about it, is you can go day-by-day for any team and season through 2003 and find out who won/loss the game, record, games behind, record at home. The older season do not have the winning/losing pitcher. http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/
Maxman
That is a real nice career. Unfortunately he stopped being productive at the age of 32. If he knew about nutrition and weight lifting who knows what he could have done.

Maxman
Ham... If Henderson is on that team he has to lead off. With that many big bats you need Rickey at the top of the order. Mattingly is my idol. But I am going Gehrig at 1B and Rickey can DH.

GimmeShelter
I think Reggie deserves the nod at DH. Reggie revived the franchise in 77 and 78. I'd probablt take Maris as well over Rickey.

Not a chance. Maris is career .260 hitter. And Rickey actually has more career home runs. Maris had a magical season in 1961. HE had 3 good years in his career (60 - 62) but not much else. To many average\terrible seasons otherwise.
