FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Randy Moss missed both practices on Thursday, one day after the New England Patriots receiver appeared to injure his left leg during a passing drill. Moss, acquired from Oakland in a trade during the draft, pulled up midway through Wednesday's practice. Medical trainers applied ice to his upper left leg, and he later left the field under his own power. "Randy's good," coach Bill Belichick said Thursday. "Day to day." Asked about a timetable for Moss' return, Belichick said, "My crystal ball's no clearer than yours." The 30-year-old Moss is attempting to get his career back on track after a disappointing two-year stay in Oakland. He had been a standout in Patriots training camp, catching nearly every pass thrown his way, and he has been consistently cheered by Patriots fans. "I think they understand that he's here because he wants to win," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said of Moss, who accepted a one-year contract at a reduced salary to play for New England. He was injured while running under a deep ball thrown by Tom Brady. The two had connected on similar plays throughout camp. The Patriots have 12 receivers on the roster. Three are on the physically- unable-to-perform list: veteran Troy Brown, free agent Donte' Stallworth and Chad Jackson, a second-round draft pick a year ago whose rookie season was limited by leg injuries. The other top candidates are holdovers Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney, free agent Kelley Washington and Wes Welker, who was acquired in a trade with Miami. As long as Brady is on the field, its satisfying... no need to have Moss out there.... though it would be a good "should have pushed harder to play with Chad" slap in the face... "Well, Randy wasn't on the field" Okay, you still had Stallworth, Welker, Caldwell, Gaffney and Brown. Either way though, I see Randy being back pretty soon. He's in a place where he wants to win and he cares about performing for this team. Its a much different atmosphere when you go from a team whose had less than 20 wins since 2002 to a team that hasn't gone any shorter than the AFC Divisional Round except for one year since 2001. Randy is a Hall of Fame WR, and Chad is a career back up that just hapens to play for a team not smart enough to find a real Q.B. I hear ya, but from the looks of things Revis is holding out too long, so one of our 2 hopeful starting cb's is out for the opener, and if Moss is then neither team is at full strength, it is just the way things are in the nfl. In 9 years Moss has averaged 75 catches a year for 1,188 yards each year, and 11 TD's a year. There's only a couple of Wrs in the history of the game, close to or better than that over a 9 year period and all are in the Hall of Fame. Maybe you missed it but his contract with the Oakland had him being paid just under 9 million this year, he could have easily stayed for his full contract but instead took a 6 million dollar pay cut to be traded to New England and New England only. He still could've been sent to Green Bay, the Jets or whomever else if they brought more to the table and actually wanted him. The only men in Green Bay and New York that actually wanted Moss were the Quarterbacks and both franchises ignored their Quarterbacks. He will flourish in New England because he does not have to carry the offense, but its not like he had a choice. It was New England or stay in Oakland.
