JETS 53 Man Projection

Offense: 24

QB: Pennington, Clemens, B Smith (3)

RB: T Jones, L Washington, Barnes, Tutt, Ware (5)

WR: Coles, Cotchery, J Mac, Stuckey, Wright (5)

TE: Baker, Ryan, Dearth (3)

OL: DBrick, Mangold, Clement, Moore, Clarke, Kendall, A Jones, J Bender (8)

Defense: 26

DE: B Thomas, Ellis, K Coleman, Bowens, Hicks, Kimo, Haynes (7)

NT: Drob, Pouha, Mosely (3)

LB: Vilma, Hobson, Barton, Harris, Kassell, Spencer (6)

CB: Dyson, Barrett, H Poteat, Miller, Revis, D Coleman (6)

S: Rhodes, E Coleman, E Smith, R Washington (4)

Special: 2

K: Nugent

P: Graham

PUP: Chatham, Dwight

IR: McChesney

Bubble: DE Hamilton, CB Hodge*, LB Schlegel*, OC W Smith, WR F Jackson

* if Psquad elig

PSquad: 8 + 1

DE Trusnik, TE Posciak, OC Villani, NT Devito, S Ventrone, WR Pellot-Rosa, Hodge?/Schlegel?

plus Foreign: TE Iluto

****

Areas of Uncertainty:

PSquad: I don't know exactly how Psquad eligibility is determined. Any clarification would be great.

CB: Watch Al Hodge, he should make this team on talent but might get caught in the numbers game. If Revis continues to hold out, he makes opening day roster.

OC: Wade Smith causing alot of snap fumbles, what's the use of a backup OC who can't snap? The Jets could hope Mangold continues to be an ironman and keep Kendall as the emergency OL for all three interior spots.

DE: Please note the battle between Haynes/Hamilton/Kimo for the final 2 DE roster spots. This is the closest battle on the team. I believe Kimo is playing the worst out of the 3 but the team likes his leadership and is paying him pretty big dollars. If they were going to release KVO the time was march prior to the roster bonus.

Thanks Bit! This is spot on. I agree with all, but I do think there is still a real possibility that Kimo goes, as Mangini preaches the Best 53 sermon. I hope you are correct that Kendall is wearing Green & White this year; as much as I hate this public spectacle, the Jets need him for many reasons. W. Smith is a huge downgrade as far as overall line depth is concerned. I like Spencer as well and the Schlegel experiment funding needs to expire. W. Wright is the consummate Tangini player; the kid is hungry!

I am pretty sure they will make room for Wade Smith. He sure is awful snapping in the shotgun though. I also think that one of the H Back sort of guys will stick, especially because of their ST's value. Where do thise two spots come from? From this group: Kimo, Hicks, Kassel and Mosely. My guess is Hicks and Kassel.

Haynes has so far been the best pass rusher in camp, and got a batted pass that was then INT'd against the Falcons. Coleman saw time at NT in the nickle and dime, and having Haynes available as a pass rush DE specialist while keeping the Thomas/Bowens option next to Vilma in pass defense makes for a much improved pass rush.

It's probably either Hicks or Mosley, not both. I don't see how Kimo or Hamilton stick.... the only reason NOT to cut them is for leadership value. Count the DE's... Hamilton, Kimo, Coleman, Haynes, Ellis and BT situationally. You could throw Bowens in the mix too. That is at least one too many, maybe two too many.

Wade Smith HAS to stick for some O line depth. Kowalewski and Posiask .... one is needed for ST's. I think you have one too many ILB's here... I can see keeping 4, not five. Mangini has some tough decisions to make.

Practice squad info.......

Pay: Practice-squad players get a minimum of $4,700 a week, and almost all are paid the minimum. If they are signed to the active roster, they are paid on a pro-rated basis at the minimum salary level of $230,000 a year. One week's pay is $13,529, based on a 17-week work schedule.

Practice-squad players are considered free agents and can be signed by any team at any time.

Practice squad rules: Teams can have a maximum of eight players on the practice squad. The limit was increased by three in 2004. Players credited with two or more NFL seasons are ineligible. There is no restriction for age or last season in college.

Benefits: Practice-squad players aren't eligible for pension credits, 401(k) participation and other benefits included under the collective bargaining agreement. They are covered by the master health and medical plan.

Practice availability: The benefit to a team signing a player to the practice squad is that he can practice with the team. A veteran who is not under contract can't.

Two words:

Andre Wadsworth

The people from Disney want him on this team. The Super Bowl victory will be so much more "Hollywood" with Andre around.

Don't ask me how it happens. Just credit me when it does. :)
