OK, this is bad. This can ruin a wedding for sure!

Matron of honor killed by lightning at N.J. wedding rehearsal

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A Howell woman who was to serve as the matron of honor at her best friend's wedding last weekend was struck by lightning and killed during the rehearsal dinner on the eve of the ceremony.

Cindy Osler, 45, had gone outside with the best man just after 8 p.m. Friday to check their car windows because the weather became cloudy. She was soon hit by a swift stroke of lightning from the threatening sky.

"Everybody was so happy, and then it became a nightmare," Dave Tarnowski, the best man, told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Monday newspapers.

The bolt had torn through the pavement and knocked Tarnowski down.

The wedding was postponed indefinitely following Osler's death.

"She was my best friend," said Lisa Lecompte, the bride. "She was like a sister to me and a second mom to my kids."

Osler is survived by her husband of 25 years, Frank, three children, two grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.

I was playing Hold'em in Vegas this past week. I was talking to a guy who just hit quad Aces and won a bonus $50 on top of the pot he won. We were joking because the "Quads of the day" was Kings, which would have paid him $250 on top of the pot. 20 minutes later he joined a sit and go tourney at the table next to me. 10 minutes after that he was laying on the floor dead, getting CPR from the casino employees for the next hour. The paramedics in Vegas can't get there too quickly on the count of the strip traffic.

One thing I will say, if you ev3er decide to have a massive heart attack anywhere other than a hospital, do it in a casino. Those guys and girls were so quick to react properly and without panic, I was amazed. My hat was off to them, and they really took it personally that they could not revive him on the spot. 2 days later I asked to poker host if they had a status on the guy, apparantly the hospital revived him after not having a pulse for over 2 hours. I have a feeling they might not have been doing the guy a favor at that point, but the fact that they even could was a direct result of the amazing job of the casino workers.

I normally don't care when people die, but this is really unfortunate. three kids, two grandkids, and the way the bride spoke of her. It will be really tough for them to finish off the wedding w/o her friend.

Plus that probably would have been one of the fattest envelopes also.
