Cmart28Coles87
I was hoping Sanchez could become Mariano's succesor as the next Yankees closer when we got him. Hopefully he'll return next year at full strength.
oxscott
I was hoping Sanchez could become Mariano's succesor as the next Yankees closer when we got him. Hopefully he'll return next year at full strength. J Brent Cox is another very good arm that is in our system, who just had Tommy John, and has good closer experience. He, if fully recovered, is the heir to Mo, in my opinion.
mbn007
Cox is not the closer of the future. he is a setup guy. He does not really have the stuff to be a final closer, at least in the Definition that Baseball looks for these days. The guy to watch is Melaconen (sp??). He also had TJ surgery (I hope the Yankees get a bulk rate on these with Dr, Andrews). He had it last November, and is throwing already. He should be ready by ST, which will be some 16-17 months after the surgery. Most pitchers need the 18-18 months to get back the arm strength. And most get it back, with a bit more velocity. Whelan, Robertson, Horvis, Workemper( sp???) are all in the mix, with Cox, as set-up guys. This does not include Sanchez, who I still believe will be given the Joba treatment in 2008, by pitching as a starter under strict pitch counts, and being converted to a setup guy in August, for the stretch run in NY. Then in 2009, he comes to ST looking to join Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy and Wang in the rotation.
