lets see Barrett and Poteat are fair at best, Miller other than mental mistakes commits alot of penalties and they trade Dyson? do not like this move at all...why not have a strength on the defense...do any of you think anyone is good on this team? at some point the Jets have to keep some talent on this team...this is going to be interesting

First, Dyson is far more than adequate. If you divide any professional player group into thirds, the lowest third is adequate--minimally fills a need. Think Poteat. He is adequate. The middle group are solid professionals. Dyson is a solid professional. He will have a long NFL career. Any team that drops him will find there are many suitors for his skills. He has trade value, but the team must be careful to get fair compensation back.

The Jets got a 4th for Kendall who, at this point in his career, is adequate. Fills a need for a year or two. For Dyson, you would want a 2nd or a solid starter in return. It's a possibility to trade Dyson for a starting OL, but not likely.

Then there are elite players. Kerry Rhodes, if he continues his play this year, is an elite DB. Maybe in 2 years, Revis will be as well. For these guys, you want a high first or more.

There is a tendency to underestimate players who are not elite. Dyson clearly fits this bill. He is a very good corner, just not an elite corner.

CBs are not worth what they used to be. The NFL right now encourages passing and has been systematically eroding pass defense for years now. 10 years ago a guy like Champ Bailey would absolutely shut down one side of the field, now, he's clearly the best CB by quite a bit but he can't quite do that.

It is now quite a bit more important to generate pressure on a QB via a strong DL or LB corps, and have CBs that can cover for a limited period of time. If that time goes too long then no matter how good they are, a good QB should be able to complete a pass, probably for a big gain.

Which leads directly to us. With our O-line, we don't have the time necessary to exploit the passing rules and climate. Our QB also probably can't take advantage of that time the same way as other QBs can when they get it. If we upgrade the OL though, our offense should be able to put up more points, and putting up more points make the opposing offense predictable and makes our defense better, by both giving it some rest and by forcing the other team to become predictable and desperate.

If Dyson can be leveraged to Faneca, I guarantee we win more games because of Faneca than we would have because of Dyson.
