Iphone repricing

Well, I am pretty surprised, and kinda pissed, that they hacked the price by 200.00 so soon. In looking at the pricing of the new ipods, i guess they felt like it would be a huge stretch and look like padding profits if they offer the new 8gb ipod touch for 299 and double the price for the same thing + cellphone capability, so I guess they had to reprice. I doubt it is due to sales since they sold 270,000 in the first day and a half( the iphone was launched with 1 and a half days left in the third quarter), and with new numbers out saying the iphone outsold all other smartphones in july and sold 2% of all cell phones for the month of july.

Apple slashes 8GB iPhone price by $200

This is no surprise... its what Sony is doing with the PS3 as well..., it costs a lot for them to start making it... once everything gets going thought they can then afford to drop the price...

Its the way electronics work today... if you want it first... you pay the price.

The iTunes store and Starbucks (bad coffee) is REALLY cool.

It just made my $600 iPhone have MORE functionality.

Now, if they can add tasks, notes (that sync) and IM I will be all set.

I think IM will come with the next version of ichat as part of the new osX, maybe with video chat, that would be cool.

why so surprising?

if you live on the cutting edge of technology, there's gonna be some bleeding

Generally you are right, but a 33% cut in 2 months heading into the holiday season for a product that is selling as well or better then expected with no updated new model is pretty steep and not something that really happens or should happen. I think they just realized that offering the ipod touch 8gb version for 299 which is an iphone without the phone or edge data network would mean that apple wanted double the price just to add the phone. I think the touch would have really hurt phone sales, why would people switch carriers or upgrade a phone and spend 600 when they can just buy an ipod with all those features except phone for half the price, so they needed to bring the iphone inline more, making it just 100.00 more then the ipod touch. It makes sense in that regard, but is something that should have been figured out before the iphone launch.

$100 rebate for iPhone owners!

Go STEVE!

BZ

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.

Store credit

Still cool though

I don't think it is a ripoff at all, a TON of development goes into a product like CS geared toward pros who will use it to make much more back in return. They have cheaper versions of these apps like photoshop elements that are just as good for 90% of people not pro designers. It is like movies, video games and pharma drugs, everyone thinks because it costs .20 to replicate a dvd that the software should be free, but they forget that while the second dvd may cost .20, the first one costs hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars.

lol, nah, it isn't a piracy thing, you never said anything about stealing it, just commenting that for what you get and what it is, it is not a bad deal. Of course i would love to have it for 100.00, but that just isn't gonna happen.
