That's not cruel. It is amazing he fought this long. I saw him a few years ago in Raleigh, NC. He needed a stand to keep him upright. He would sing. Then leave the stage while his co-star for the evening would sing. Then he would come back out and sing one or two. He owned Nessun Dorma. No one sang that with he passion he did. Truly a legend. I grew up listening to Pavarotti in the household; there was always something playing (on the 8-track!!). What a beautiful voice. 71 is just too young to go, but he lived a very full, very rich life. I don't mean monetary 'rich' although I'm sure he was more then set for life.

He always appeared old to me even when I was a kid, hearing he was only 71 I was shocked... he always looked 71! He'd been in and out of the hospitals for years.
