PFSIKH
While getting your ass kicked sucks, a Bills player was taken off the field immobilized. While that is the normal precautionary steps, it is being reported that he had emergency surgery and had a cervical spinal injury.
Warfish
I saw that.....it certainly gave all us watching the game where I was a second of solid pause. It's never good to see that. One can only hope he recovers.
crackbackblock
Not sure if this was posted yet http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3012007 Bills' Everett injures spine; Webster, Simpson, Wire also hurt Associated Press Updated: September 9, 2007, 5:24 PM ET Comment Email Print ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Kevin Everett was in a hospital under observation for a cervical spinal injury after the Buffalo Bills tight end was knocked cold and taken off the field in an ambulance Sunday. Coach Dick Jauron provided no further update on Everett's status following the Bills 15-14 season-opening loss to Denver. And Jauron wouldn't say whether the player regained consciousness on the field or en route to the hospital. Everett fell immediately to the ground and showed no signs of consciousness after a helmet-to-helmet hit when he tackled Denver's Domenik Hixon during a kickoff to open the second half. Everett was placed on a backboard with his head and body immobilized, and carefully loaded into an ambulance at the Broncos 30. The game was delayed for about 15 minutes, and the Bills gathered at the sideline while doctors attended to the player. Everett's injury was the most severe, but far from the only one sustained by Bills players during the game. Starting free safety Ko Simpson is out indefinitely after breaking his left ankle. Starting cornerback Jason Webster is out indefinitely after breaking his forearm in the fourth quarter. And then there's linebacker Coy Wire, filling in for injured starter Keith Ellison, who sprained his knee in the first quarter. Simpson was hurt when he had his feet cut out from beneath him by teammate Jason Webster as the two were attempting to tackle Broncos receiver Javon Walker. Simpson fell immediately to the ground and was unable to put any weight on his left foot. Team trainers were forced to lift the player onto the cart and he was taken for X-rays. Buffalo's fourth-round pick in the 2006 draft, Simpson started 15 games last season, and was a member of the NFL's youngest safety tandem, playing alongside rookie first-round pick Donte Whitner. Third-year player Jim Leonhard took over for Simpson. Wire was examined on the sideline, but made his way to the locker room on his own. Reserve Mario Haggan replaced Wire. It's unclear when Webster was hurt. The Bills had signed the seven-year NFL veteran last spring to take over as starter after losing Nate Clements to San Francisco in free agency. The injuries were the latest blows to an already banged-up and young defense that was starting four players with less than two years of NFL experience. Buffalo also lacks experienced reserves at defensive end, with Ryan Denney out indefinitely with a broken left foot and Anthony Hargrove suspended for the first four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press Good thoughts and positive energy to the Bill's fans, team, Kevin Everett and his family and friends. Word is he is currently in surgery. JetCane
Some thoughts from his teammates including Roscoe Parish: "Being a close friend of mine, Kevin Everett, it's kind of tough, but it's the game you just have to be focused," said Parrish who was also Everett's college teammate at the University of Miami. "When something like that happens to a close friend of yours that you talk to every day and you know how much he loves football it kind of bothers you." Even after the game despite the painful defeat the players' thoughts still turned to Everett's situation. "When we came in here after the game the first thing we thought of was Kevin," said Lee Evans. "There are some things that are a little bigger than the game and that's certainly one example. Our hearts and prayers go out to him and we'll certainly be checking on him as soon as we can."

DireJet38
Christ. Buffalo is going to have a HELL of a time trying to deal with Randy and the Pats. Their already weak secondary has been OBLITERATED. Simpson is a good player -- that is a jarring loss.

Thai Jet
We were home watching the game and it didn't look good from here. His head and neck just snapped back. My thoughts quickly flashed back to our own Denns Byrd. Hope everything turns out alright for the kid. The Bills Ko Simpson also broke his ankle during the game so it was a costly game to the Bills in terms of injurys.

nyjetsjetsjets
Doesn't sound good, this article from the buffalo news states that he may have had his 3rd and 4th vertebrae removed. not good. http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/159288.html Everett undergoes lengthy surgery, may be paralyzed Bills tight end suffers damage to cervical spine, is reportedly on respirator By Allen Wilson NEWS SPORTS REPORTER Updated: 09/10/07 8:34 AM Mark Mulville/Buffalo News Bills players gather in prayer for teammate Kevin Everett after he was injured early in the third quarter of Sunday’s game in Ralph Wilson Stadium. More Photos Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett suffered what could be a career-threatening injury during Sunday’s 15-14 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday in Ralph Wilson Stadium. Everett was admitted to Millard Fillmore Hospital with a cervical spine injury. Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said Everett went into surgery about 8 p.m. Sunday, but he didn’t know whether Everett had shown any signs of movement since he was driven off the field in an ambulance. The Bills provided no other details, but a source with knowledge of the situation told The News that Everett’s surgeons removed his third and fourth vertebrae. There was word at the hospital late Sunday that Everett, 25, was out of surgery and in the intensive care area. He was said to be on a respirator. A spokesman at the hospital declined to comment. “He’s had some sparse movement,” Everett’s agent Brian Overstreet told the Associated Press in a phone interview late Sunday. “The next couple of days is going to be critical,” said Overstreet, responding to a question about paralysis. “Our concern is for him to come out of this healthy and, hopefully, be able to walk again.” Overstreet said Everett came out of a “lengthy surgery” Sunday evening and the plan was for his mother, Patricia Dugas, to arrive from Texas today. Word out of the Broncos’ locker room was that Everett was paralyzed. “We hear it’s not good,” Denver kicker Jason Elam said. Everett went down after a collision with Denver’s Domenik Hixon on the opening kickoff of the second half. Everett lowered his head into Hixon’s chest to tackle Hixon and appeared to be knocked unconscious on contact before falling to the turf. Everett seemed to regain consciousness, but had no movement in his extremities. He was placed on a backboard and stretcher with his head and body immobilized and was loaded into an ambulance near the Broncos’ sideline. Before Everett left the field, the Bills huddled near their sideline for a silent prayer for their fallen teammate, who was on the ground for about 15 minutes. “We’re very concerned,” cornerback Terrence McGee said. “You always see guys get shaken up and you see some kind of movement. With him I was looking the whole time and I never saw him move. It’s real hard to take. Hopefully everything will be all right.” Given the serious nature of Everett’s condition, the loss was secondary in the minds of the players. “When we came in here after the game the first thing we thought of was Kevin,” wide receiver Lee Evans said. “There are some things that are a little bigger than the game.” “Obviously, we lost the game, but Kevin is critical to our team,” added tight end Robert Royal. “We love him. We want to stand by him. That was the first thing Coach Jauron said when we came into the locker room. Our prayers go out to Kevin and his family.” Safety Donte Whitner said the incident put the game in proper perspective. “This is a physical game and guys get hurt, but you never want to see anybody have something like that happen to them,” he said. “What happened to Kevin lets you know how easily everything can be taken away from you.” This injury adds another chapter in Everett’s hard-luck NFL story. The 2005 thirdround draft pick was robbed of his rookie season after tearing the anterior cruciate in his left knee during the Bills’ first postdraft minicamp in April. Although a groin injury briefly delayed his comeback a year later, he was back on the field for training camp. But Everett’s playing time last season diminished as he struggled to pick up the offense. He was expected to have a larger role this year. awilson@buffnews.com
