Barton
The Jets lack the horses on both sides of the ball, mainly on both the offensive and defensive lines, but they also lack the horses at QB, ILB and OLB. Once, < or IF ever at all> , Mangini finds the horses, look out. We know he is a strategist, and gets his team ready to play with great gameplanning each week. But the bottom line is there is only so much you can do as a team if you're not as big or strong or fast as the other team. We saw that even with a supposed great gameplan yesterday afternoon, that the Patriots were just bigger, faster and stronger than us. You cant teach that, and you cannot hide it when the sh#t hits the fan. Here is what you need to realize though, and I dont want to sound like I am talking down to anyone, because I am not. I am trying to explain: Its going to take years to find these horses and implement them into the system. I hate to tell you this because you do not want to hear it, but you have to give this regime more patience then you can imagine. It will take Y E A R S. We currently lack the horses on defense: NT, DE, ILB, OLB. Currently, we dont even have small ponys or baby horses at these positions, we have donkeys and mules (Drob, Vilma, Barton, Ellis etc etc) We currently lack the horses on offense: QB, OGx2, RT The Jets are in a rebuilding mode. I tried to tell you this in the offseason, but most didnt want to listen. FORGET about how we went 10-6 last year. Wake up and realize that the Jets were/are a 6-10 talent football team, that went 10-6 on innovative creative coaching and an easy schedule. If yesterday didnt show you that we are in a rebuilding transition year, you are in denial or just plain not smart. By 2009/2010, most of these horses should be in place if all things go according to plan. Until then, hope for the best with our new QB Kellen Clemens, because the success or failure of Kellen Clemens, will be Mangini's ticket to the Superbowl or the unemployment line. You can have all the horses in place, but if you dont have the horse at QB, forget about it, you arent going anywhere. Go Jets.
gang_green03
I agree with this somewhat. We desparately need to upgrade in the trenches on both sides. We have a dire need for a NT and RT, as well as an impact pass rusher. We are in rebuilding mode and that was masked by a bunch of variables last season, however, that doesn't mean we can't still be competitive. I think we should be able to maintain playoff contender status while we are putting the pieces in place. Using yesterdays game isn't the best gauge of our team. We got beat down by argueably the best team in the league and they have very few weaknesses to exploit. We were outclassed, but the Patriots are not the norm. We'll get a better idea in the coming weeks.

BwanaZulia
This team is not going to be measured by one game against one of the best teams in football. Everyone needs to take a little breather, go for a drink and realize that we have 15 more games to play against teams a lot worse than the Pats. The team you saw yesterday will NOT be playing in December. BZ
Barton
The Jets FINALLY have a Head Coach, in Eric Mangini, who is smart and innovative, brings out the most in his players and doesnt hold the team back, but of course the talent level on the team is not up to snuff where we can legitimately be SB contenders. Its the opposite of the Herm era. Where we had as much talent as any playoff contender, IF NOT MORE, but where held back by a HC who was dumb and predictable. Give Eric Mangini and Co. time to put his puzzle together. Allow him to find the right talents for his system. But it will take years and maybe even a couple of losing seasons. But if and likely when he finds these horses, we will be superbowl contenders down the line, guaranteed. We NEED Clemens to be the real deal. However, he doesnt need to be the real deal right away. If he struggles like Drew Brees did early on, then so be it, as long as he pans out for us, like Drew Brees did for the Chargers. Clemens will struggle early on, that is a given. But, we need to be patient with him and not kill him, (or crown him) if he plays great or horrible, in a few games. He needs to see extended playing time, at least 25 games before we get a real idea about him, as long as he shows flashes early on of course. They arent gonna make their run until 2009 and beyond, and 2009 is being very generous. Its likely 2010 and beyond, and thats counting on Clemens panning out for us. Forget about our injury prone never-will-be QB. Its time to turn the page and look towards the future.

So far he has addressed the simptoms not the problem.
Barton
Problem is, Im not overly confident in Mangini's ability to bring in these horses. Lets see what he does this offseason and in the draft. I like how he went out and got a true 3-4 ILB in the draft, in David Harris. As well as a corner who fits his system with Darrelle Revis. Nose tackles are hard to come by, just like a great QB. Its amazing how f'n lucky the Patriots were by having Wilfork slide to them in the 1st rd back in 2004, as well as finding a HOF QB in the 6th rd back in 2000. I see us adding a 3-4 OLB pass rusher in the draft or free agency next year.

Listen Im all for team, high character guys, but that should never overide raw talent. And no, Im not talking about bringing in Pacman or anything. High character guys will get you Julius Jones instead of Steven Jackson. ouch I havent seen that happen to the Jets (where they get burned for passing on a supposed troubled player for a good ol' boy). Miller would have been off the team already, but Mangini kept him around, so maybe he knows his limits.

JetCane
Problem is, Im not overly confident in Mangini's ability to bring in these horses. Their record on FAs isnt good. And not only that, but being 10M under the cap means DOGCRAP to me if more horses are needed.

Signings like Kimo and others arent a good sign. Bring in guys who can make plays.
Bugg
The Jets are not ready to step up with Indy and the Pats. They still might have a shot while working to that goal over this season at a wildcard. But no on,e and especially not Mangini, is delusional enough to think this is the year. That doesn't mean I'm not a fan and I'm not rooting my ass off anyway.

It's not the character that is a problem, it's the talent. Our guys lack it.
