As you all know,I am one of the guys who thinks Chad Pennington isn't a very good QB. However I never wanted to see the kid get hurt and lose his job. Not saying he has but just want to make that clear.I am very vocal on the JN message board about my feelings about Pennington but isn't that the idea? I root for the NYJ just as hard come game day as ANY Chad supporter or homer you know.

I don't like seeing some of the comments that imply if you don't fully support every single coach and player on the team you are less of a fan. It's asinine. I love this team. I spend countless hours and $$$ on them each yr,I wouldn't do it if I didn't love this team. I want them to win. I want Chad Pennington to prove me wrong but I will not pretend not to see his flaws.

Is Clemens the answer? I don't know...nobody does. Eric Mangini is not the greatest football mind to ever coach a team. There have been many, many great quarterbacks who came out of nowhere to be great. Their HC's didn't see it right away. I'm not saying he is great or will be anything special....but to dismiss the possibility because our HC hasn't given him the starting job over the veteran QB with the large contract....is wrong.

I will support this team and which ever QB takes the field on Sunday. I want this team to win. I want whoever gives us the best opportunity to win. Chad had his chance...Clemens will get his and you can be damn sure I will be right here to talk about it with you guys. Win,Lose or draw. Just remember next time,no matter where you stand on issues like these with fellow Jets fans...come sunday...WE ALL ROOT FOR THEM TO WIN.

For all the **** that was talked this offseason Clemens better be good and not a scared little girl like he was on sunday vs the pats.

What did you expect form the kid, seriously? Him to go out and throw 50 yard lasers to everyone and put up 67 points? Have the pocket presence and poise of a veteran QB?

How about we give him a chance like Chad Pennington has been given since 2002. There are still fans who are saying "Just wait...Chad will do it " 7 yrs later and they are the same ones saying Clemens needs to step in ASAP and produce and win or he will be a bust. How is that possible?

That is fine Smizz. But Chad is a winning QB and that is a fact. I will give Clemens a chance and I hope he is a lot closer to Chad than he is to Browning Nagle.

Clemens sucks. How do I know it for sure? I don't...it's my gut feeling like I had with Pennington. Doesn't mean I won't support Clemens and hope he proves my gut feeling wrong...I was hoping Pennington proved me wrong as well.

The problem is, certain Jet fans put their own personal agenda's before the team...GO JETS!

I like Penny and I was booing those fans who were cheering when he was injured, BUT with that said a winning qb?

Answer my one question RSJ, what is his record against teams with winning records? Do you know the answer?

There is nothing that Chad Pennington does on the football field that another QB can't do. Nothing. Including leading this team to a victory.

LOL!!! You say it is time to unite and then you post that. Good one.

If what you said is true the coaching staff would have picked Kellen to start the season. Go with the younger guy who is just as good, it's a no-brainer.

Chad isn't a Hall Of Famer. But it is his team. His teammates would tell you that. This team can not run, they can not block. I agree that you want a guy that can stretch the field. But if they can't block there will be no time to stretch the field.

Long term wise I am happy to see what Kellen can do and root for him. But Chad clearly doesn't get the respect that he deserves for what he has done for this franchise.

Well we all know what happened the last two times he played the pats after they figured out our signals.

With Hermy I don't really count it.

All I'm saying is you guys act like NOBODY can lead the Jets to a victory but Chad Pennington. He doesn't do anything special that would make him irreplaceable. He won the job & he is better than Clemens right now....but he is hurt and might not be able to go.

This is Chad Pennington's team and he deserves all the credit in the world when we win,but when we lose the fans blame everyone but him. Not saying Sunday's loss is on him just pointing out you guys can't have it both ways every week.

I'm personally pretty fair smizz. I won't kill him just because he has a bad outing against Baltimore this week just as I wouldn't kill Chad. They are a tough defense and as long has he doesn't look like Brooks Bollinger I will give him the benefit of the doubt. But if he still looks like that 3 or 4 weeks from now I will be going off on him.

It really doesn't matter who is throwing the ball back there at this point with the O-line look like a slice of Alpine Swiss.

I'm with Smizzy. No point in dividing as a fan base. Why must we hate one of the QB's and incessently love the other?

My opinion:

Pennington is a good game manager that plays a cerebral game. Unfortunately, he can't move around in the pocket, is extremely fragile, and can't make a lot of throws that a pro QB should be able to make. Therefore, he'll put up decent numbers over the course of a game, but won't strike the OPPONENT DOWN.

Clemens has been apprenticing the mental part of the game under Chad, and has been studying this offense just as long. He's has a superior arm and a superior ability to move around in the pocket -- very neccesary with this o-line. Unfortunately, he has virtually no experience and his head is going to explode staring down the Raven's defense. Potential just means you haven't done anything yet.

Conclusion: Pennington is the best back up QB in the league. Clemens is a big question mark, although has shown some promise.

Not the best QB situation to be in.

Exactly. And this line would make Dan Marino look like crap on his best day. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with your point about Pennington. Other qbs can win with this team and I appreciate you stating that Pennington won the job and the coaching staff thinks he's better than Clemens right now. OTOH, can you be serious when you say that when the team loses people blame everybody but Pennington? There are guys here that blame him for global warming.

And the spinning begins! Pennington's problems were his fault, but Clemens' problems are because of the o-line.

Got it.

Let's not pretend there isn't fans who have Chad up on a pedestal and he can do no wrong. Those are the same guys who told me Herm was a great coach and that getting his ass handed to him in the playoffs wasn't a big deal because we are Jets fans and we should be grateful we got to there in the first place.

We all know there is a very wide spectrum of Jets fans.

Where did I write that ,Bob? I have said more than once SUndays loss is not on Chad at all. The )-line and the D-line played horrible and that is why we lost. I even went as far to say Joe Montana and Peyton Mannings baby couldn't have won that game on Sunday.

The point of this thread is regarless of our diffence in opinions from Monday to Saturday...come Sunday we are all Jets fans and want this team to win. Just because I come here and pick on a single player doesn't make me less of a Jets fan.

That is right on Smizzy- we can disagree on how to get there but we all want the Jets to win the championship as the end result.

With a defense as bad as ours, we need an offense that can move the ball up and down the field quickly in big chunks.

Chad really doesnt have the ability to do that, I guess we'll get to see with Clemens.

I would disagree.

If you have a bad defense, the idea is to keep that defense off the field and take time with the bvall.

Of course, teh premise has to be to score with the ball when you have it, but bad defnses are best left off the field.

Again I ask, would it be unfair of me to expect Tony Romo type numbers from Clemens this year?

Smizzy this is hypocritical of you to do in a thread you claim was created to UNITE the fan base.

I wrote last year that I wanted Clemens to get a look late in the season. I want the Jets to win. I don't care if our QB is 70 years old and the full back has to hold his colostomy bag. If he gets the job done that is all I want.

For the Jets to win.

Yet somehow I am labeled as "you guys" because I haven't ruled Chad out. I never said he was a Hall Of Famer. I feel he gives the Jets the best chance to win right now. It is pretty obvious that is how Mangini feels.

But in a thread set to unite we are classifying people based on what they believe. If Clemens can play better than Chad right now get him out there. I am a fan of the scoreboard.

Sure sounds like you were claiming that all Jet fans give Pennington a pass after losses. I think most blame him for more than his fair share. He doesn't have a strong arm, but he is far from the weak link on this team.

Let's not pretend there isn't fans who have Chad up on a pedestal and he can do no wrong. This I can agree with. For every Barton or 124, there is an ecurb claiming Pennington is better than Brady and Montana.

Based on everyone else , Chad Pennington is on the brink of getting us our 3rd Lombardi trophy.

Don't go lumping everyone together like that as blind homers. I definitely made my points about being behind chad, and for pretty much the reason you are saying we should "Unite and get behind" our team now, he was the man chosen by the jets to lead them." Did I ever make outlandish claims that Chad was the second coming of Marino, no, but the guy came back from an injury and led a not steller team to 10-6 when nobody had us at breaking even for the 06 season. Now, when the guy that gets the starting job isn't who you see eye to eye with it is fine to press that agenda ad nauseum, but once the guy you have been routing for gets a shot (because of an injury from a pussy o-line and not because of poor performance btw) all of a sudden everytone should unite because hey we are all jets fans and we all root for them to win yaddayaddayadda. Sorry dude, but for the people like myself who already were of that mindset and attitude, people coming here and all of a sudden wanting everyone to unite and not be so critical and pretty much be like what they themselves were leading up to sunday, well, it is a bit offensive if you ask me.

Now, having said that, I want my team to win, as always. Chad was considered the best option we had, Clemens, who was considered second best option is now slotted intot he starting lineup due to injury, I hope as our NEW best option he is up to the task. I won't feel like a fool if he turns out to be the next brady, because all along all I ever did was root for the guy the Jets decided to put under center as the best weapon. I never stepped foot on a jets practice field or sat in on the coaches meetings, so who am I to know who is truly better.

At the end of the day, I am one of the ones who truly wants my jets to win and I have no hidden agenda for or against any player on the team, and I never have.
