Scott Dierking
Did anybody else read the article in the Post today, about the teams with the best records getting to pick the playoff format that they want to be involved in? I guess the first Series are either a choice of 5 games in 7 days, or 5 games in 8 days. Interesting. I had not heard that before. Makes best record a little more advantageous. mbn007
I think that was the purpose behind the whole deal. IMO, there is no reason why a solid team would not chose to take the extra day off. But that can backfire if the other team has 2 ACES, as that means both can pitch twice in a best of 5 series. The way that the NY Post spun it, they theorized that a team would choose the 5 in 7 scenarion, if playing the Yankees, to limit the contributions of Joba bcause of the back to back scenario. It will be interesting to see what teams do.

It will be interesting to see what teams do. If a team does that, because of a relief pitcher, they are fools. 2 reasons. First off, the "Joba Rules" will be relaxed/revised come playoff time. Bet on it. Second, if the team playing the Yankees is leading after 6 or 7, the "Joba" fear factor does not come in to play anyway. So each team needs to do what is best for their own team, and not worry about the opposition.
toon88
Russo actually made a good point today, I know hard to believe. Said if Boston finishes with best record and draws Cleveland in the 1st Rd, they should choose the 5 games in 7 days format. Reason being if they chose the 5 games in 8 days, they would face Sabathia & Carmona 4 times in the series, all on full rest. If they took the 5 games in 7 days, they would only get Sabathia twice and see someone like Paul Byrd in game 4or 5 against either Wakefield or Dice-K. Thanks for the info. Most interesting indeed. You'd have to really think this out well and see what's best for your team.
