Jets extend Brandon Moore after refusing, trading Kendall

BY RICH CIMINI

The Jets refused to give left guard Pete Kendall a $1 million raise this season because he still had three years remaining on his contract, ultimately trading him, but they've done just that with Brandon Moore. The veteran right guard has signed a new contract that will raise his base pay this season to $1.8 million, according to an NFL source - coincidentally, a $1 million raise.

The breakdown of the contract wasn't immediately available last night, but it's believed that Moore, unhappy with his previous deal (which went through 2010), is now under contract through 2013. Moore, 27, is the longest-tenured member of the offensive line. He left training camp for a half-day as a form of protest, and now he has been appeased.

On the surface, the Moore deal conflicts with the organization's philosophy of waiting to rework contracts. With Kendall, the Jets refused to budge, leading to a summer of acrimony. They dealt him to the Redskins, who gave Kendall the money he was seeking.

Well, they were gonna let Moore play for the salary he bargained for, and let him stew about it, and make him the third string center and put him in the rookie dorm, and plug in Bender at RG, but they realized they needed Bender at LG, except he's a project, so he's not even ready to play yet, so they were gonna...

Well they might not have made the best decision in the short term but how is it not logical to place more importance on signing a 27 year old over a 34 year old (or however old he was)?

Jesus people stop acting like having Kendall would've solidified our line. He would help right now, but nothing substancial enough to make such a big deal about every 5 seconds. I really can't see how not having Kendall here will cost us any games.

All I can come up with is that Moore signed his deal 2 years ago & Kendall just last year. Plus Moore didn't get much of a SB (I think less than $500K) & Kendall got a few million the season before. Plus Kendall is 34 & Moore is 27.

But that's really reaching. Particularly for a nothing-special talent like Moore, no matter how strong he supposedly is.

Probably because Moore didn't go to the media to bitch about it. Kendall is a martyr.

Exactly. Moore didnt make a stink about it, aside from a half day hold out (lol). Plus, Moore was getting paid absolute peanuts considering he's a starting NFL guard. He probably got a raise, but not a large one.

Jets | Team signs B. Moore to contract extension

Wed, 12 Sep 2007 08:47:34 -0700

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the New York Jets have signed OG Brandon Moore to a three-year contract extension through the 2013 season. Although full financial details of the extension were not immediately available, the deal earned Moore a $1 million raise in base salary for 2007, to $1.8 million. The base salaries for the three seasons of the extension are $2 million (2011), $1.75 million (2012), and $1 million (2013).

The numbers. Good job by Tanny.
