ECURB
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3015281 HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington was preparing to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens despite being hobbled by an injured right ankle. Pennington, wearing a black wrap around the ankle at practice, participated in footwork drills but didn't throw any passes or take any snaps with the offense during the half-hour period that the media is allowed to view. The quarterback walked with a slight limp, appearing to walk considerably better than he did after the injury Sunday. "It's just a day-to-day process and I'm working extremely hard around the clock to do everything I can to prepare myself to play," Pennington said. "I'm just taking it day by day and seeing how much progress I make each day." Pennington injured the ankle when he was sacked by Jarvis Green during the third quarter of the Jets' 38-14 loss to the New England Patriots. The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. reported that according to an anonymous source, Pennington had told those close to him that he didn't think he would start Sunday. "Chad doesn't think he could play this week," the source said, according to the Star-Ledger. "He said the ankle is really sore. He wants to play and he's going to give it a try, but he doesn't think he's going to play." If Pennington can't play, that would open the door for second-year backup Kellen Clemens to make his first NFL start. The Jets have remained tightlipped about the nature of the injury, and wouldn't reveal if Pennington had an MRI exam, which he was believed to have taken Monday. The quarterback also deflected the question. "I'll let you ask Coach those questions because I'm scared to answer those,'' Pennington said, drawing laughs. Coach Eric Mangini does not allow anyone in the organization discuss injuries, including himself, saying they are internal matters. "We'll see how it goes,'' Mangini said. "And it's really like everybody. We'll talk to the doctors, we'll see how it works and then we'll monitor it as we go.''

serphnx
I'm much more confident in CP playing myself. I still think KC was a bad pick. If there comes a situation where CP is completely and totally ineffective, and it's obvious he can't get it done, then and only then do I want to see KC start. But CP played fine on Sunday, so why bother with the change now?

Im sure he can manage now...

I dont think this season is lost... so I want Chad in there haha, this season lost? anyone that says that hasn't been a jet fan for long. A lot of AFC teams look very mortal, the pats might have a small undooing if this scandal is legit, and are now less dominant (or very beatable). The o line can only get better with playing together, and yes, chad did look good on his TD drives...it would still be nice to have a running game, or the big play ability, but we can still win without them. That could make things a little difficult. If Kellen was just making 5 yard throws Coles and Cotch could have led the team to a TD drive again. The only reason I replied was ecurb took my original Kellen post way too seriously when I was joking. He clearly has a reason to be so defensive and maybe its cause Chad isn't the greatest thing on earth like ecurb would like you to believe. While Chad didn't have very much to do with the loss last week and turned in a determined performance playing while injured it wasn't great QB play. What we can get is good consistancy (feel free to post last years td to int stats now...i get it), he generally has good quality games, with limited turnovers, which is what you need to win. It would be great to have Palmer, or Manning, but we don't...few teams do. I really hope Kellen can be the next drew brees, but that chance is small as well. All this talk about Chad should be focused on our two lines, which, as patriotreign said looked like swiss cheese. sadly, he's right.

I actually agree with you that consistent game manager play from Chad while we have a good team is whats best for this team to win. However we don't have a particulary good team and we need a better QB to get to the Superbowl. I'd rather bench Chad now and see if his replacement is good enough to get us there or not. *All posts by me about Kellen Clemens have considerable bias, I go to University of Oregon and would love to see a great Ducks QB suceed on my favorite NFL team. penningtonfan82
If chad is able to play, he will, and that to me is fine, if he cant move around enough he won't and that is fine too because he'll just play against the dolphins.

Irish Jet
I hope he doesnt play. Normally, I wouldnt mind us playing a slightly hurt QB as long as he can get it done... ....But vs the Ravens. I love Chad but I cant see him (unless 100%) or Kellen winning us this game. I just have a bad feeling.
Irish Jet
How can people start excusing Kellen about him playing in 'Garbage time'. Its a heck of a lot easier playing vs a D in garbage time than the one Chad faced 1st half. Kellen is not ready, Chad is our guy. I just really dont want to ruin our season by risking him this week.
