MLB Parity...for once?

Based on the standings alone as we finish off the 2007 campaign, it would appear that the gap in talent between the elite teams AND the bottom feeders has thinned. No one is going to lose 100+ games this season, and no one is going to WIN 100+ games, either. Even the bottomfeeders had respectable home records (the Pirates and Devil Rays are both 35-40 at home. Considering the D-Rays are 27 games back and Pittsburgh is the second-worst team in the NL, not bad). And as we all know, home success usually is a good thing for attendance factors.

All in all, Bud Selig should be very happy with how the 2007 season went (the Bonds situation aside).

as soon as the yankees AND the red sox miss the playoffs, then there will be parity.

Parity is overrated.

Boston and NY are the heartland for MLB fans. In Philly, they hardly give a damn about the Phillies, and while I would love to see them make the playoffs, making the playoffs at the expense of a team whose fans actually DO care, and WILL watch is not good for baseball.

A lot of people complain like that as their excuse for not supporting their team. Bull****. Support your team first, then they'll deserve it.

You know why they don't care don't you? their teams always suck. it's not a difficult concept.

So completely ignore the Braves past 15 years and the Angels past 6 or 7 years..

You are right on one thing though. I am married with 2 kids, so getting a woman to rub me off has been tough..

yeah the braves took a lot away from the NL during their run. It's obnoxious on all ends, i stopped watching baseball because of the yankees. until this year since other teams are seeminly doing alright, we'll see if it continues in 08...

either way, its the best feeling in the world when the yanks get knocked out of the playoffs and people are always surprised to see pay-rod hit his normal .105 WRISP.

Good points 80.

I am more curious if this is an aberration or the effects of luxury tax payouts finally trickling down.

In the end, it is better for MLB if there is an appearance of parity. It will never be true like the NFL, but it might help baseball shift away from needing a Sox/Yanks playoff series every year.
