HS football coaches instructed to report false scores

Just read an article in "Stars and Stripes" (military newspaper) reporting that a new rule implemented for High School football coaches has them falsely reporting scores so players' feelings aren't hurt. If a team loses by more than 39 points, a coach has to send in a score that refelcts a 39 point win. So if a team wins 70-0, the coach has to report to the paper that it was a 39-0 win. Horrible. Just horrible.

What's the big deal? The government's been doing it for eons. :bag:

I'm not going to agree or disagree with anything being said here...just trying to keep it on topic....IMO this is a friggin joke. Like the kids don't know they got their asses kicked on the field. They're going to feel better when they pick up the newspaper and see they were so bad that the media decided to lie about it. That's worse IMO.

Pathetic. What next, soccer games without the score being kept?

I'm a newspaper reporter and editor. If I found out a coach was reporting scores that way, I'd write a story exposing the whole thing. If it continued, I'd publish the coach's claims right next to an independent verification of the actual score every week and tell everyone which was which.

Bob's in the media? Oh boy. ;)

This all goes back to people and their feelings getting hurt. If you are bad enough to let teams blow you out, then the newspaper is the least of your worries. That or you have a horrible coach who enjoys losing. They have hills to run for that kind of stuff. Use the newspaper articles for motivation. Cripes. What is society crumbling to?

The thing wrong is a 70 to 0 beating from one high school team of another- the teams should not be playing each other since obviously they are not at the same level.

That was one thing the article touched on. These are schools from US military bases so the number of opponents they face is limited and they deal with a much higher turnover rate than most schools. High School programs usually have continuity with their best players being able to keep them for four years and knowing when they'll be gone. Military schools? You can go from powerhouse to doormat in one season if you lose kids whose parents retire, move do a different base, die in combat, get kicked out....any of those reaons. That makes it pretty much impossible to keep "fair" match ups.

I don't see the point. The kids playing the game are going to know they got their a$$es kicked whether the papers say otherwise or not.

that's what i was thinking. a 39 to 0 thumping is a pretty serious beat down, looks bad on the school's team anyway, 70-0 is just stupid. who cares if they print it in the papers with the lesser score. Either way the other team still smokes pole :)

OK AFJ I see it is tough to have competitive games with military schools. there is something wrong still with a coach that will let the score run this high IMO.

I agree. If a girl doesn't like you, she should just say it. Don't worry about how much I spent on the flowers, just be honest.

Actually, I AGREE.

if you buy her flowers and she rejects you, you should be ready by having a lead pipe in the flowers to beat her with.

then...? grab a fork.

Agreed. Running up the score on high school kids is bull****. You can't tell your kids not to play, but you need to sit the starters when the score gets out of hand.

^^ That pisses me off just as much.

Leave the little chubby, lazy little fat ****s of the field. If you want to spend November through July eating cheetos and sittin' on the couch do that, don't waste the time of real coaches and real players. I hate the whole pop warner 6 play rule that **** used to annoy me. "HEY, JAMAL, COME OUT! WE NEED TO GET REGGIE INTO THE GAME" DAMMIT CUT THAT **** OUT!

and on topic, if a 6'4" 300 pound kid needs some writer to shave some points to save his pride, this world is going to hell.

This is already done with a lot of small kiids... baseball.... soccer... no scores... everybody plays

In that case, if they all have to play, do it the way we did in school. Screw the 11 a side thing, just divide them into two teams, and let them kick the crap out iof each other.

AND KEEP SCORE.
