DefenseWinsChampionships
We can also talk about the negatives... But I seen alot of positives from this Jets team yesterday. -Lets start with Chad. He's back, and looking great. in 2 games... Chad has done everything a Quarterback can do to help his team win... The offensive line is starting to play alot better, and yesterday Thomas Jones had his first 100 yard game as a Jet with an average of over 4 yards per carry. We all seen the workhouse Thomas Jones can be for this Jets offense with an offensive line that is actually doing it's job. Justin Miller who? I wont lie... I had high hopes for Justin Miller this year as a Cornerback, but we found a kickoff returner in L.Washington... Who is simply amazing in the open field. In 3 games Leon already has a KO return for a TD, and he also brang one back in the preseason. What a great return yesterday vs the Bills. D'Brickashaw Ferguson played solid vs J.Taylor yesterday... And actually played alot better in the run game. How many sacks did Taylor put up yesterday vs the Brick? I know Ferguson has made some mistakes this season, but yesterday was a step in the right direction for Ferguson and this Offensive line. Cotchery...He's back from the shoulder injury, and playing better than ever. Great game for Cotch yesterday. I think he had like 5 catches for 60 something yards. He's actually our #1 WR this year with 18 catches for 276 yards. Coles has 16 catches for 146 yards... With 3 TD's. A.Dyson... Wow... It's great to have Dyson back as our #1 CB... That means D.Barret drops down to #3. With a healthy Dyson, and a rookie in D.Revis who is getting better each and every game... I feel our secondary will be getting alot better. Our Defense got our 1st sack and our first Int yesterday thanks to Ellis and Rhodes. Our Defense needs alot of work... But all in all, I seen alot of positives in yesterdays game... As a team I agree with everything you wrote. I want to add that CHRIS BAKER is vastly underrated as a receiving TE and CLARKE is really coming on at OG in place of Kendall. The man had several pancakes yesterday- as in football jargon! The lack of a pass rush is going to severely hurt this team!
will
Nice job. Since you list Jones and Penny's performances as positive I feel the need to say that in addition to the utter failure of the D-line to get much penetration in both the passing and running games (is Brown the most elusive runner in the NFL?) I think the offense's inability at the goal line/short yardage is another glaring Jet weakness. It sounds wrong since Penny ran one in and hit Coles on a fade and Baker on a floater to the end line but if the Jets cant ever pound from the goal line or hit an inside zip pass then their short yardage offense is too much of a crap shoot. They desperately need power on both sides of the ball. I thought Jones might provide some but so far it doesnt look like it. The short passing game, on the other hand, is in great shape. Also, Jones looked to be in better sync with the line, hitting the cut back lanes. It was very nice to see Ferguson handle Taylor - basically without TE help - and the O-line to get some push in the running game.

I may be wrong, but I think Dyson only played in nickel situations. I think Revis and Barrett were the starters. It could be that they rotated all three. timbok
Penny did awesome,it shutup a lot of fans here that disapproved of him,and it led us to a win, leon washington was the key factor tho, without that kick return..we could be sobbing...right now...singing whats new with the jets..loss loss loss lossssss
Wolfe Jet
Just want to add the juke that Jones put on in the 2nd half was jaw-dropping - in traffic, 90 degree left tern out of trouble, and he comes up screaming.... And to give some Chad love, his mastery of the 2 min offense at the end of the 1st half was made so much more evident in the finish of the Jints/Jetskins game... BUM-KNEE
Although I didnt get to visually see how the team played, I was reading along in the game thread and listening on WRCN radio. From what I can gather, DBrick played well and held his own. He had been struggling a little since the Minn pre-season game I saw, so its good that he got back on track vs Miami and J Taylor. It seems he is still showing he is in his sophomore year, but is able to rebound and have a solid showing. When he struggles, we will have a hard time getting this offense rolling. I think he was a large key to the success in the Miami game, and kudos to him. Clarke also seemed to be holding his own, and maybe between him and Brick there is starting to be some chemistry and cohesion. That gelling process will take more time to bear fruit, but at least it "sounded" like it is at least starting to bud. It is good to hear the phrase "Pennington has time" being repeatedly spoken during the game. Penny again worked with what he was given, and thats where he does his best work. TJ got over the century mark finally, and that gets yet another monkey off our back. Again this leads me to believe the O-line is able to do more than tread water. I wish I couldve seen how he ran with my own two eyes, but it did sound like he was finishing runs and lowering the shoulder pads on people. The defense seemed to be overpowered once again by an O-line hell bent on establishing the run, and this should not keep happening. If you cant stop the run, you cannot win in the playoffs --if we happen to stop enough teams throughout the year to find ourselves in the post-season race. Last year, this D became better throughout the year so I have to remain optomistic that the necessary changes or personnel will be installed to get stops when needed. The full time return of Dyson will breath some needed life into the coverage as a whole, whenever that will be. Revis seemed to be getting thrown at this time, and he did ok but drew a couple of penalties. I did hear the names Vilma, Robertson and Harris being used in regards to positive plays on defense, so there is effort being put forth by the guys on the field at times. I am not a coach nor do I have any forsight on the behind the scenes goings on of Manginis decisions and all that influences them, but I do know that this defense has got to be solidified to survive in the NFL. As I said before, I will remain optimistic that the needed changes will come soon though. This D needs to do more than tread water.
