Kiefer Sutherland Arrested on DUI in LA

By Associated Press

53 minutes agoUPDATED 34 MINUTES AGO

LOS ANGELES - Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Tuesday for investigation of misdemeanor drunken driving after he was stopped for making an illegal U-turn and failed a field sobriety test, authorities said.

The actor was pulled over about 1:10 a.m. in West Los Angeles, said Officer Kevin Maiberger.

Sutherland, 40, tested over the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent, said Officer Karen Smith. Police declined to say what his blood-alcohol level was.

Sutherland spokeswoman Annett Wolf declined to comment.

The actor was released around 4 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to Sheriff's Department records.

Maiberger said Sutherland was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.

Sutherland won a best actor Emmy last year for his role as agent Jack Bauer on the Fox TV series "24." The series is set to return to the air in January.

Did any of you read the new Maxim? It listed the toughest tough guy movies of all time and "Lost Boys" was number 2 or 3 of all time. I almost threw up in my mouth. More like pansiest movies of all time. I liked it fifteen years ago, but to say its one of the toughest movies ever is a laugher.

DUI is a serious crime. it's snickered at and eyes are rolled because too many people do it but driving is dangerous enough without being intoxicated. there is never an excuse to drive drunk, especially when you're a multimillionaire.

my proposed punishment:

First offense: 2 yrs, no driving.

Second offense: lifetime ban.

sure, it can happen to almost anyone once but anyone who isn't scared straight after getting popped once for a DUI shouldn't be behind the wheel again.

who cares, tons of people get DUI's, it doesn't make them right by any means, but to crusify a guy because of his celebrity on something that happens to a lot of people, doesn't seem right.

I'm not saying i agree with DUI's, i've never gotten one, just saying to leave these people alone.

JGB- i agree with the your punishments being steeper than they currently are.

i feel somewhat sorry for a middle class parent who gets popped for a DUI after one too many glasses of wine with dinner. kiefer will still be the star of 24, still be rich, still be a sought-after guest of talk shows (maybe even more so now) and still be a sex icon to millions of women after this dies down. "normal" people lose their right to drive, have to take a bus to work (if available) because they can't afford drivers and possibly lose their jobs and their livelihoods from a DUI and are often ostraciszed. i don't feel sorry for kiefer at all. bad press him up. maybe it'll make others think twice before getting behind the wheel.

Hey now, I wont argue with that, however Maxim labeled this movie as a top 3 "TOUGH GUY" movies of all time. I beg to differ. Good movie, yes. Are there any tough guys in it, hardly.

People who drive drunk suck.

how else do you get your car home from the bar??

Seriously, it is not a joking matter. DUI i s a serious offense. I used to do it all the time and luckily never got caught even though I did such stupid things like jumping dividers on Atlantic Ave going to buy pot.
